Same situation as before...

You have taken in the three lostlings...they are all sleeping...after having eaten...

You hear a car driving down your street...over a loud speaker you hear...
"By order of the chief of police... we are odrdered to search private residences and confiscate all firearms.."

Shortly thereafter you hear pounding at the door..."Police...Open the door!"

OK...there it is....

If the situation has gotten bad enough that I must decide whether or not to let in a single mother and her youngsters, then society as a whole has crumbled. We are not talking about an earthquake or even a 'cane. This would be something that destroyed our way of life overnight.
If that is the case, a "police man" is as much of an authority of the state as he is the Goblin King. The door does not open. They either break down the door...or they don't. If they do not, we go on as we have been and ride out the storm. If they are back in control and break down the door, then the worst thing that happens is i get carted off to jail, roughed up a bit, and fed. If they are NOT on the up and up and break down the door, well i guess we all get shot and they steal my food.
If i am not wandering the streets, then no one is getting my arms without a fight.

well, actually, i might be WATCHING them, and might protect them without leaving my bunker, but they most likely did not come in... they still don't know i'm there.

neither would the police. my bunker is my house? i think not. now, i might have remote cameras on my house for giggles, but ... i'm not home. bugged out days ago, took a few things with me perhaps, maybe i had time to lock some "important" things down in a safe room that of course, nobody knows about.

police? hah hah and hah. in the end of times, the police are going to be about as savage as the people, or worse; and the pretend police... how would you know? keep your head low. by and by, someone is going to probably take those guys out. local police chief cannot imho give such an order, and someone is going to resist, a lot. a real police chief wouldn't even try it. look at no-lo, the police were doing some of the looting themselves. mind, SOME of them were doing it for supplies they needed, or pre-emptively taking weapons and such, but more than a few were taking expensive toys as well. oops.

so. i'm hiding. nobody knows i'm there. nobody will.

i'm watching you all. especially YOU, in the back. yeah, you're on MY LIST! :)

Authority is an illusion if it's not backed by force. Emergencies merely highlight this. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it) most people tend not to remember the lesson.

If they don't physically have the ability to do what they want, do what you want. Stay quiet and wait for them to get bored and leave. Or, tell them to go to hell if you're looking for some excitement.

I was going to crack a joke about eating them too but that might be overdoing it. Cannabalism is only so funny. (Plus there's no way they'd all fit in my stock pot.)

In the early days of WW2 Winston Churchil created a secret resistance force in England called the "Auxilory units" With sealed orders to be opened in event of German Invasion.

Thier First order.

"Assisinate all senior police officers."

After all in occupied countrys they usualy become quislings who work for the occupiers.

I open the door. I give them the gun(s) in the house. I let them search. I am polite, and even friendly. I agree with their position, etc.
They leave, and I am now off the radar since I am a compliant citizen.
Next morning, I go dig up my cache.......

Answer to scenario, No. Interesting 411 Spiral.

He/they would be dead " traitors".... doing their "duty".

If it happens it wont be cops.. It'll be brainwashed military personnel... complete with waving flags....following orders ( any orders) like a " good soldier".

"Fight bad orders," George S. Patton

Assuming, based on what I've seen over the past few days/weeks, the police are still acting legit: Yell "coming," hide the guns/weapons not already hidden (as most would be) then let them in.

Assuming I have reason to believe that they are no longer to be trusted, and especially if I don't think they can back up threats with significant force: sit tight, keep quiet (and keep the others quiet) and wait for them to leave.

Also, if civilization ends there's almost no chance I'm going to be in a city or anywhere the police would have an interest in going - in backwoods VT it would just be too much of a pain for them to go to every house with that sort of order. Half the residents don't have weapons and the other half wouldn't give them up. Plus, just getting to every house would take days or weeks w/the size police force we've got.

Hmm...they have weapons, maps, radio communications with others, an operational vehicle, emergency gear in the cruiser?

I'd be glad to see them...it all sounds like Xmas in this situation.

LOL, gotta agree with that! :D

I've been reading.

Scenario #1 is the same old stuff that's been beaten to death in movies since the 1950's. End of civilazation, life boats, same stuff. Why? Because it makes what they think is a good story.

So I thought some more about this from my perspective only. It's the end of civilization thing again and a woman with kids shows up. Why a woman and kids? Because they epitomize a tear jerker scenario. If I planned for only my survival in this unrealistic scenario they would not come in. Other's lack of preparedness would not be my responsibility. Man, woman or child.

I would feel differently if it was a short term natural disaster.

Scenario #2 isn't going to occur. If it's the end of everything, there will be no organized LEO effort to go to every house and take guns. The LEO couldn't even control New Orleans during and after an expected disaster with the might of functional government behind them.

So. End of everything. Nobody gets my supplies.

Natural disaster, maybe.

Scenario #2 isn't a possibility.

OK. I've thought enough.

In the total meltdown scenario, ANYONE who shows up demanding to be let in is going to get a faceful of lead. Or chestful. Whichever. That goes doubly for anyone attempting to impersonate an authority when the shtf.

Period.
