So after some search bar-fu I figured I would ask what is everyone's REALISTIC short list of knives to buy? By realistic I mean obviously everyone wants (insert name of $1k+ blade here) but not everyone can afford those. So post up a list of the top 5 knives on your list at the moment you are trying to buy or going to buy this year.

Ill go first :)
-Grayman Satu
-Grayman Dua (I regret selling mine)
-ZT-0620
-Emerson Roadhouse (Satin finish)
-Hinderer XM-18 3.5 (It just has to happen now that I am LEO, I must own this)

Remember be realistic and have fun with it, bonus points for posting knives that people dont normally see/lesser known makers!

There are hundreds of knives I would like to own, but the ones I'm really focusing on now are few.

Microtech DOC
Spyderco Southard
ZT 0561
Benchmade 635 Mini Skirmish
Some kind of Emerson (Roadhouse? Commander? Dunno)
Lion Steel SR-1

JOk here's mine but I must post this disclaimer. As a retired police officer I have carried some expensive knives, Microtech autos, Mick Strider, and Chris Reeves. I DO NOT even consider them for edc. They are put away with other memories and gear better left in the closet. I believe in inexpensive edcs! After all they are a tool to be used. So having said that her is my list:

1. Spyderco persistence
2. Spyderco dragonfly
3. Kershaw cryo 1555ti, and the G-10 model
4. zt 0566 ( I really lust after this one)
5. Kershaw knock-out

These are in no particular order and my lists grows with my disease. Big money knives were so much easier to financially justify, to the better half, when I could use the whole "it is part of my duty gear" argument. Lol

- Minuteman MM01K (made by ZT) already preordered
- Kershaw Camber
- ZT 0180
- Jim Hammond Cruiser (not CRKT)
- not sure

I haven't really given it much thought, as I've already bought most of the knives I was really after. It's more a matter of going back and finding discontinued models that I missed out on previously.

I'll play. Here's the top 5 in no particular order.

1. ZT 0392
2. ZT 0562cf
3. TSF Beast
4. Grayman Satu
5. Swamprat Rodent 6

Love this idea, so here goes mine! I will say that one of these is a little more on the flat-out expensive side for me, but I still would leap on it if I had the chance, and probably bite the bullet and sell some less-used knives to make up for it afterwards.

1. Matt Diskin Fire (like I said, a little pricey)
2. ZT 0562CF (Got in a pre-order!)
3. Emerson Horseman
4. Spyderco Tuff
5. ZT 0392 (only #5 because I'll probably never own one)

Over the past year, I've bought, sold, traded, and given away a lot of knives. I gave my cousin a Kershaw Scallion and Leek, as they were inexpensive, good knives and he needed something as he was moving into his own place. That was last summer. Since then, I've owned a Strider SnG, Kershaw Blur, Brian Tighe mini Tighe Rod, ZT0801, a vast list of Spydercos, a few Benchmades and a few lesser known brands. The only knives that have "stuck" and will never sell or trade:

ESEE Izula
ZT0801
Brian Tighe mini-Tighe Rod
Spyderco Manix 2 XHP, PM2, Gayle Bradley, Dfly ZDP, Caly3 ZDP/CF, Schempp Rock.
Brous Bionic
Benchmade 530 and 162
LionSteel Opera
Cold Steel Recon 1
SOG Seal Pup.

My current search is the perfect flipper (unassisted). I love my ZT801, just wish it was smaller. I've tried the Southard, wasn't for me. A Kizer 3404 came in the mail yesterday, and will probably be sent back today or tomorrow. Don't like tip down clips and the handles are too slick, and the flipping action is not smooth. Next I'm going to be looking at the Brous Silent Soldier flipper. Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to try. I have no desire to own a CRK or Hinderer.

Wont be adding anything totally unique. On the top f my recent list was a Spyderco GB Folder, retrieved it from P.O. this very morning.

My immediate short realistic list:

Spyders
Mili/Para (spint steel)
Native 5 S110V (any Native 5 really, Regret trading the the '12 Forum )
Ulize
G-10 Dragonfly

BM
805/806
710
940-1(need another 940/43 no matter the steel)
HK w/ Axis+D2, model #...?

Busse
Game Warden
Active Duty

Edited to add

Need a Sod Buster and a few Opinels

Fun thread... thanks for beginning it.

A month ago I began building my shopping list. I've currently 22 links in my Wish List Folder.

From the looks of things, I'll be adding some to my list.

I'm semi-retired so don't have a bottomless budget so am looking under $500.00. At that pricepoint as a maximum, the selection is mind-blowing.

So, I'm picking up a few cheaper knives of different styles & types. First, it's a folder. What kind of locking mechanism? What kind of blade shape? Auto, Assisted or manual opening?

Right now, I'm down to drop point or wharncliffe but don't know much about and have even less experience with different lock types.

Thus, I'm reading this thread with interest...

For me, right now:

I'm carrying a Buck X-tract Essential multi-tool. It's got a decent droppoint blade, scissors, philips & slot screwdrivers -- all one-handed opening and all lock. Takes care of almost everything I need a tool for during my days.

My "after work" "gentleman's" pocket knife is a Kershaw 4380DM Double Cross Damascus. (http://kershawguy.com/products-page/vintage-or-rare/4380d-double-cross-damascus/)

For Now,

Gib

Here's the top 5 on my want list. Might take me a while to knock them all off:

-Tighe Breaker
-Fantoni HB01 or 02
-Lionsteel TM1
-Knife Research Legion
-ZT 0770cf

Top 5 knives I plan to buy this year, hmm, so many choices(and I will definitely be buying more than 5).

I guess these 5 I'm fairly certain I'll get this year:
Condor Moonstalker
Condor Solobolo
Kershaw Strobe
Cold Steel Counter-Point XL
CRKT Halfachance

Also on my list are several of the Kershaw Emersons, Cold Steel Eland, just about all of the 2014 Condor releases(but the Moonstalker and Solobolo are at the top of the list), SOG Snarl, Kabar Parangatang, CRKT Woods Chogan Tomahawk, Ontario SP5, several items from Traditional Filipino Weapons...I know I'll be getting several(or all) of these as well, but the above 5 are all definites(assuming they all do indeed come out this year).

I'm trying to thin down my collection but it hasn't been working out, I keep adding despite my best intentions:)

As far as my next few purchases, it looks something like this:

1) Hinderer XM-18 3.5" Spanto flipper. (I recently traded both if mine and miss them a little)
2) Busse ASHBM
3) Scrapyard SYCKO 711 (if I can find one, since being discontinued)
4) Emerson Journeynan

I'm pretty content with what I have, but there are two knives that interest me.

Spyderco Manix 2 w/S110V

ZT 0180

I bought that one not to long ago and it's a bit smaller than I thought, I was expecting it to be the size of the Double Agent. It's a real looker.

My short list would be:

1- Sage 2 and 4 since I already have 1 and 3 and I need to complete that series.
2- Other than those I think I'm gonna save some money for a pistol and CHL.

Mine is simple......

BOKER PLUS Voxknives ROLD
RAT ESEE 3
Swamp Rat Ratmandu or Rat 6
Buck Hood Punk/Thug
Becker BK --14 --16 --10
ZT 550

1. Spyderco Worker
2. Spyderco Stretch 3
3. Spyderco Manix S110V
4. ZT 801
5. GEC #71

A couple of years ago I decided to update my collection and get an all new EDC rotation. I made various lists that changed with time, and now I have gotten everything on the list. So there is nothing major left on my list to look for. :(

Not that there aren't a few knives that I might like to have if I run across a good deal on one.

I guess I can just turn the computer off and go away now.

In no particular order:

Spyderco Delica FFG
Spyderco Manix 2 FFG
Benchmade Doug Ritter Griptilian
ZT0770CF
Victorinox StayGlow Classic Swiss Army Knife
