I notice that the only picture that would show the blade markings, just happens to be the one shot that's badly out of focus??

The knife you show isn't a 701. It's 3 7/8" closed. The bolster design doesn't match a 701. What's on the clip blade tang - Buck - model number and year code - U.S.A.

Can't read them in the photo, but that's what threw me, it looks more like a Boker or Bulldog. One of the big German names has a line called "Diamondbacks".

I sent a question to the seller to ask them to verify the tangstamp.

So, the person you bought it from used a Buck box? Is it a 701 box? I forgot to mention that the handle shield is not the 701 oblong style that has Buck in block letters. Earlier models made before 1985, had Buck in Script letters, both on the shield and blade tang. That year was a transition period, so there are also some models with block letters. I have several with Script on the tang, and Block on the shield. Confusing!!!!!

TLC, No way man. You didn't show the photo of the end of the box with model number 701 on it. I believe that's what it the end showed.

I saw this auction this weekend and thought "you got to be kidding". But it brings up a point.

How much are we as forumites with at least half a grain of good sense suppose to go about policing public auctions......I notice the unknowing, the ill informed and the out-right crooks every once-in-a-while. I am cautious to comment as I don't know nuthin' in reality, the more I know the less I know.

Are we Buckaroos group responsible to police our knife world ? 300$s

I have a Buck Creek Diamondback and it looks just like that. I think the writing on the blade says Diamondback and a picture of a snake or something like that. The symbol on the shield is for the Buck Creek brand. For a Buck Creek it is rather crudely made.

Buck Creek is a Frost Cutlery brand made in Germany. When I get home, I will check it out. By the way, I have all the 700's and that is not even close.

At least it starts with "Buck".:jerkit:

It's a tough call, I have occasionally pointed out to a seller, that the knife they are selling is not what they describe in the auction. Most times, it was just an honest oversight, and they thank me and correct the auction listing. Every so often, you get a seller that gets mad, which leads me to believe they knew they were misrepresenting the knife, and doesn't change the listing.

They go in my "never buy from" file....

Wrong word. I used "oblong" to describe the shape of the 700 series shield. It's "oval". They both start with 'o'!!!! I was partially right. Well, maybe not. Good luck.

Maybe it's a Buck Creek stockman.Looks like a deer's head on the shield.
If you read my post, I actually have the knife. On the blade it says "Diamondback" with a picture of a snake and then underneath, it has "Hand Made Germany". It is indeed a Buck Creek. It is my least favorite Buck Creek, somewhat crudely made.

Here is a picture of it along with a REAL Buck 701. Trust me, the second knife is a REAL BUCK.

The seller emailed me back, it is indeed a Buck Creek, the knife came from a relatives estate, and I honestly get the impression that he or she didn't know the box was wrong. There was a purchase invoice inside the box for a BC659, which 659 is the model numner for a Buck Creek Stockman of that pattern.

I dunno, if he was on the up and up, he should of said "Diamondback Hand Made Germany" was on the blade. There is nothng about 97 on the blade, but that is about the time it was made. Also, it had "Buck Creek" on the blade. Plus you said it was a Buck 701, where did he get that from?

I paid about mid $20's for the Buck Creek and around $45 for the Buck and the Buck is not made anymore.

You are nice to think he made a mistake, I think it is somewhat more sinister.

THey did, I wasn't quoting the entire listing, but for the record, here is the whole thing.

Up for auction is a new Buck Bronco pocket knife.
This knife has never been used and is still in the original box, paperwork included. Marked on box model #0701-00-0.
The main blade is marked "Diamondback Hand Made 97"
It has 3 blades, with 3 rivets.
This is a heavy well constructed knife.
4-1/2" long 9-1/2" both sides extended

From the Buck box.

Could be, they do sell an odd mix of junk, not just knives. Typically those are the ones that are more apt to make an honest mistake than folks that just sell knives.

We'll see if he changes the listing now! :D
