Hello all-

Just got this 1615 Centofante about a week ago and only have cut paper with it. The problem is the speed-safe will not fire the blade past 90 degrees.
I didn't want to take it apart for fear it would void the warranty. I tried cleaning and lubing it but it didn't help. And I did not cycle it anywhere near 10,000 times. Close but not 10,000 (ha ha).

It has to be the torsion bar that is bad although it does have some pressure when closing.

I know Kershasw will take care of this. My question is-Do I need to sent the knife in or could they send me a torsion bar and I could do it? Also if I have to send it in, it says to include a sales receipt. Not sure I'll be able to find this! Is this going to be a problem?

Thanks,
ken

Alrighty..... taking the knife apart will not void the warranty. It sounds like you need to loosen the pivot a bit. About 1/4 turn of the screw should do it. If the bar were broken it wouldn't fire.

As for torsion bars and parts from Kershaw....follow these simple steps.

Go to the Kershaw site and click contact us.
Click the drop down and select warranty.
Type in what you need.
Wait about a week.
Retrieve parts from mail.
Fix Knife.

My step father had a leeks torsion bar go bad on him but there were these micro cracks in the bend. It fired to just about 70 degrees and then went dead. I replaced the bar for him that kershaw sent and it was good as new. Hope you get it fixed.

Thanks for the info.

I should have mentioned that I did try to loosen the pivot screw. It didn't make any difference.

So I just tried to remove the pivot screw and it will not come out. Do they use lock-tite on the threads because when I try to remove the screw it spins the pivot on the other side of the knife (very tight).

How to hold it from spinning???

thanks

Get some tape and roll it up.
Take the clip off.
Place the tape between the screw holes over the pivot.
Replace the clip and tighten the screws.

That is my quick and dirty way of getting the pivot stopped. If you have a small piece of rubber that would probably work better.

spiralarchitect-

Unfortunately my centofante is the type with the sheath -no clip-otherwise your idea would probably work. You seem to know your stuff, you must have been thru this.

Let me add that the knife had been working flawlessly before it failed, probably was because of the tight pivot...any other ideas before I have to send it off?

thanks-ken
