I needed a nice pocket sheath for my Esquire. After looking around and considering my options, I decided to go for some immediate gratification and get a Diomedes Asp Baron sheath from Fiddleback Outpost. Not being to smart, I expected this sheath to be similar to other "production" sheaths I have purchased. To put it another was, I expected OK to good... I was really wrong.

First of all, Fiddleback Outpost is great to deal with. They sent multiple e-mails and my order was shipped almost immediately. When I got the sheath, it was incredibly well packaged. It was in a cloth bag, the "filler" in the box was burlap and the overall attention to detail and presentation in the packaging was amazing. I lived in Japan for a number of years in the 90s, and this reminded me of the way nice Japanese shops package expensive gifts. Without even seeing the sheath, I was already impressed... but wait! There's more!

Diomedes makes AMAZING sheaths. These are not "production" sheaths, but rather these are heirloom quality, craft made sheaths. The attention to detail and overall quality of the sheath I purchased was as good as anything I have got from any of the other great custom sheath makers that post here regularly. I could go into detail about all the good qualities of this sheath, but instead I will just encourage you to give Diomedes a try. You won't be sorry. Their sheaths are spectacular.

Here is the TLDR version: Diomedes makes great sheaths and Fiddleback Outpost is a great dealer.

We are really lucky that so many great sheath craftsmen and dealers are associated with Fiddleback Forge. I would not hesitate to buy from any Fiddleback dealer or sheath maker that regularly posts on this forum.

It was our pleasure! Glad you like the sheath and packaging. Jason at Diomedes makes great sheaths and has been great to work with.

Heck yeah! I agree with all of the above. Couldn't be happier with my exchanges with both parties.

Ahem. Allow me to"chime in" , as they say. I sent my Esquire in for the deal offered In August, or was it July? Jason at Diomedes and Robert at Fiddleback outpost are great guys with a fine sense of quality and a great sense of humor... just plain downright solid and reliable folks. They'll get my business every time!

I've been carrying my Handyman in one of Jason's ISP sheaths for a couple of weeks and I am very well pleased with it. Excellent quality, rides very nicely.

Nice!!! I have two on the way. One from the outpost and one direct from Jason.

Looking forward to receiving them. BTW would a Surls patch fit in an APS Gent?

Did y'all know that Jason has been making sheaths for Fiddleback knives basically since the beginning. Great guy, and has always made a quality product. Glad to hear y'all are liking this setup.

Ditto- Jason is a known entity of exceptional quality and Fiddleback Outpost is very impressive in their communication and attention to detail.

My Monarch rides proudly in an APS from FO.

Jason's sheaths are definitely worth the $! I can't wait till Thurs to get my package from Fiddleback Outpost with one of the new Trekker models for my Duke!

It is humbling to read your review and all of your replies. I have tried for a long time to simply make a good product. I am always figuring out better ways of doing things - and when I do - I try to make a better sheath. Frankly - you can't polish a turd - and putting one of Andy's blades in any old sheath seems like a crime to me. So, I am just trying to make something worthy of the blades I know you guys all carry.

Now that I am seeing WAS knives and others that have come out of the factory of amazing makers Andy seems to have coming - I know I will need to continue to up my game.

Dealing with Robert at Fiddleback Outpost has been one of the best opportunities I have had in my small career making leather. He and his team do everything they can to help me and keep me accountable. It has been a great partnership.

I wish you all the best of health and thank you deeply for your kind words.

For some reason, Diomedes always flew under my radar. I feel really stupid for not noticing them or giving them a chance sooner.

Since my original post I have been in contact with Jason. i was so impressed with his work that I am having him make two more sheaths for me.

There are TONS of people that make sheaths and sell them on BladeForums, Instagram and the greater interwebs. The ones that post here in the Fiddleback community are among the best. Like I said, Jason / Diomedes is awesome! But, so are Rick Lowe, Patriot Leather (toughest leather sheath ever!), Heber, Nix and Condos. We are really lucky to have so many classy craftsmen to choose from. I will continue to vote with my $s and buy from the sheath makers that support this community.

Thanks Brian. The Surls patch being approx the same size as the PK and Esquire, assumed would fit in a Gent.

No problem Abe. I think when it comes to sheaths, especially ISP sheaths, "fit" is a personal sort of thing....

I think you are right, Brian. Some people like a deep carry and some like a lot of handle to be showing. We decided to make 4 of them to give a lot of options to customers - and Robert has been amazingly vigilant at fitting each knife he gets to multiple sheaths and tracking what fits what and how. We want to do a sort of cross referenced spreadsheet option (Robert will be the guru behind the keyboard on this) that when you chose a knife - it tells you what sheaths fit and how.

So much work and so little time in the day!

Jason

Will be ordering at least one from the outpost this week...
