I know more than a few of us have a firstaid component to our kits, and I recently bought a new brand of band aid that is great.
I cut my hand(palm) 10 days ago quite badly and needed some stiches. At the docs office they gave me a 3M brand band-aid called NextCare. I bought more at the grcery store. These things are very thin and tough. Completely waterproof and don't peel off easily. I'm a corrections officer and I put on and remove latex gloves dozens of times per day, wash my hands at least that many times per shift also. These things stay on! I changed the tires on my motorcycle yesterday and the band aid survivied that also. Great product.

Thanks. I'll check them out.

The best "Band-Aids" I've found are called Spyroflex.

The nexcare are good but you should ask at the pharmacy counter ( these are usually not out on display ) for "tegaderm'. they can stay on for over a week.

Tegaderm is the sh!t. We still have a bunch from when my boy was a heart patient at Hopkins.

Where would I find a good price on Tegaderm?
I did a search and came up with something similar called Opsite.
Anyone have any experience with that?

What's the most ideal size for these kind of dressings?

I assume getting larger ones, at least 4"x4" so that you can always cut them down to size.

I think you might need porous surgical tape and something else to cover the dressing, no?

For cuts that need to be closed, seriously look into some of the skin adhesives. I know when I'm working with the hawks and knives at shows I ALWAYS have a tube of Super Glue and surgical tape. If you're using Super Glue, make sure you get the original formula, not the skin-safe stuff - otherwise it defeats the purpose. But some of the medical companies make medical-quality skin adhesives like Medi-Quick which I've used on scrapes and it works great - seals the wound with a clear coat that lasts almost 2-weeks. Make sure you clean the wounds EXTREMELY well so that you're not sealing in dirt and germs.
