I have two regular sized kitchen knife blocks and have outgrown both of them.
It's not so much that I have too many knives right now, as that a regular knife block can only accomodate a few knives that are Chef's knife size.
So I'm looking for a really large wooden knife block. Something that could hold at minimum:
Two cleavers
Three Santoku sized knives
Six Chef's knives
Twelve regular sized knives
Scissors
Sharpening steel
and perharps also
An extra pair of scissors
An extra sharpeninig steel
A set of steak knives.
I also really want the slots to be horizontal, not vertical. (Some of the larger blocks, which are still too small for me, seem to have horizontal slots for the regular knives, and vertical for the steak knives. Personally I think all knives should be stored horizontally when stored in blocks.)
My kitchen doesn't have any room to attach a magnetic bar on a wall, or I would do that....
Does anyone make a knife block like this? Is there someone well respected on this board that custom makes knife blocks?
