Really Proud Of My Fiddleback Camp Knife

Ok...without going into a lot of detail, or naming any names...I am really proud of my Fiddleback Camp knife. There was a particular situation in a wooded location this weekend. There was some challenging bushcraft type work being done with several knives. There were some catastrophic blade failures, and some surprisingly so, during tasks I commonly ask of many of my field knives on a regular basis. I wasn't there at the time of the failures...I was charging my battery from draining the day before. Some questions were asked after these failure, and in order to answer them as well as I could, I handed over my FB Camp and said repeat those same tasks and take it beyond them. The knife didn't only not fail to perform it also, as usual didn't fail to impress :)

What type of tasks did these knives fail at? Describe terminal failure please.

TF

Well, some failed to retain their original shape whilst removing limbs from an organic material common to the south east US...and, terminal as in very minimally functional in the bush from that point forward, and would take MANY hours to repair using anything other than a belt grinder. None of the blades actually broke in-two though. Probably shouldn't go into anymore detail than that till around Thursday...

But it still makes me want a Camp Knife.

You'll understand it all better later :)

In thinking on this further...perhaps catastrophic failure would be a better descriptor, since terminal is so much more subjective and opinionated. So I edited the original post to such.

I like this tale, but like Talfuchre, I am wondering about the other blade failures. Needless to say, the FB Camp knife is a monster. It was the first blade of Andy's that I saw online and I still want one. Unfortunately, finances have been down since he started popping them back into the FBFs. I have to rely on my wetterlings axes til then. Thanks for this post—waiting to hear more.

Woot! Fiddleback Forge knives rock!

Ah...found it, I think, but still just a lot of beating around the bush about beating around the bush in that thread too.

I wish I'd have known about it. I'd have sent a knife.

Yeah, sorry man I just assumed that you were too busy. I guess maybe I need to order a Woodsman or a Mega Hunter. I had two Fiddlebacks with me, the Camp and the Bushboot. One was too small, and one was too large. If I had a Fiddleback with a 5 to 5.5 blade with me then you would have been entered anyway...

The woodsman would have been perfect for that challenge!

Well...with the point and less belly I'm not sure if it would have been quite perfect...but would have definitely worked. I spent a good bit of time wishing I owned a Mega Hunter with a tapered tang though. That said, I'd personally rather have the Woodsman, I like pointy :D

Glad to hear that your Camp knife did the trick. Would love to hear more about this, when you can share more.

I used my Camp knife over the weekend to split some kindling and then cut up onions and peppers to make dinner. I tend to prefer my Machetes, but man, it sure gets the job done and looks great doing it.

Yeah, I'll tell the whole story when I can man. Ethan had me take some close ups of the Camp as he whittled some small fine curls using a thumb push after the bamboo cutting. I wish I had backed off and got one of the look on his face as he was using it and checking it out afterward.

Ha. You should see the comp cutter I'm making this week.

Would have loved to have a Comp Cutter there just because, but the Camp was already an inch and a half over the blade limit on that competition. That said, still can't wait to see the one you're working on!
