We've all made one or two (okay maybe a dozen :D) for OUR OWN environments and tweaked them for what we would like to have in a "Survial Situation."

BUT....

When the time comes when you are in a real SHTF situation, you won't always have the luxury of picking out what you would want with you at all times.

So, I would like to see if you guys would be interested in making an Altoid PSK passaround with items from your environment to see how others would fair with your kit.

Example: We all make Altoid PSK's (they are cheap enough), let's say 10 of us are interested, we all make a PSK suited for our (your) environment (mine would be based on fishing since I live around a lot of salt water), and we just shift down the list so we all have a PSK to play with which will include contents that you will have to improvise with.

I figured this would get us out of our comfort zone and force us to make do with items we normally wouldn't "pick" for a survival PSK. In true survival you don't get to pick and choose things, you make stuff up along the way.

We make brief reviews and take a pic or so of what you did with the improvised kit and then pass it down to the next victim :D

Let me know what you guys think, J.

I am great at surviving in the woods...for about 2-4 hours at a time;)

I think it is a cool idea so I will bump this thread back to the top....but as a total poser when it comes to survival, there is no chance I will actually participate.

I would like to read about those who do if the idea takes off!

Well you guys don't have to necessarily make an overnight stay with it (I know free time is cut back with work/family/etc..). Just give it an honest try and see how many things you can come up with using a PSK that is setup by someone else :)

Would the kits contain consumables like matches, bin-liners, etc? Re-stocking a used kit with the same gear it originally contained to pass on to the next guy might be a challenge.
However, if the replacement was an improvement such as storm-proof matches over strike anywhere, everyone might end up getting their original kit back with cool stuff inside! :D

Interesting idea. Depending on the use of consumables, it might work. If we can iron out the kinks, I'd be game! :D

I didn't think of matches and things like that, I assumed we all EDC'd ferro rods :D

Perhaps if you use it or lose it, just try replacing it to the best of your ability. Maybe a check list of the items in the PSK would help?

I'll be very excited if we can get the ball rolling, with the Texas Winter around the corner (a cold front or two on the way :p).

Any ideas on this are more than welcome :)

Knowing my luck I'd get the PSK from a WSS member located in Hawaii...G-string, bottle opener, sun-screen and a pre-paid $20 credit card for a few Mai Tai's:D

Sounds like an interesting idea though:thumbup:

I don't think we'd want to put the G-string back ....actually I'd really hope no one would use it in the first place :D

So it looks like we may have about 5 interested so far.

Now don't anyone be a smart ass and use the mini-altoids tin instead of the normal size one :p

Any other suggestions or ideas are more than welcome :)

i got board today and i actually almost done with mine and havent had to buy anything... yet.
