I bought one of the first runs of bonecutters which was very nice but unfortunately slightly over hardened.
Maybe you remember the pics but the blade met up with some oak and a large area chipped off.
Well a while back Yangdu sent me a replacement, I immediately took it in the woods to try on the same tree to test it which it did fine but I hadn't used it much since.
This one is like 15" and 25oz and the handle is a bit thinner(good) than the other.
So the wife had it out yesterday, nothing heavy duty we had this garlic bed that had grown up and she was whacking the huge poke plants off with it, and then went on around trimming up some trees and shrubs.
She commented on what awesome balance it had as a lot of khuks are just too heavy or not balanced right for both chopping and macheteing but this one is.
Well later yesterday evening I took it into the sink and washed the blade off with Dawn to get the plant juice and then steel wooled the blade to and sharpened it.
After a little sharpening using 1500 grit and a strop I stopped to check and tip to cho it was razor sharp. The Bonecutter has a thinner edge than a lot of khuks anyway so it really got sharp.
I looked over the blade, the beautiful tapered tang, the fit of the scales to the tang and butt cap and the curve of the handle. All top notch.
This one appears perfectly tempered because it is easy to sharpen but not too hard or soft.
I have a lot of khuks but every now and then you run into one that is really outsanding and surely this is one of them!
