Really trivial questions :)

OK, I'm procrastinating from making my Saturday a productive one, so I figured I'd ask some really trivial questions I've been wondering about:

Why doesn't the Police Model have a lanyard hole? Its contemporaries do, and even the Rookie does.

Where did the name "Civilian" come from? Seems odd for a knife specifically produced for LEOs, according to the "white hats" letter. Incidentally, do Civies still come with this letter and could I get copies because neither of mine still have them? I once asked a friend why it was called a "Civilian" and he joked, "Because that's who they'll be using it on."

OK, then where did "Matriarch" come from?

For that matter, I understand how most Spydercos have names associated with a profession that inspired their design... and the Delica and Endura get funky new Honda-esque names to denote the then-new liteweight line. But why the bug names like "Cricket" and "Dragonfly" or mythical names like "Calypso" and "Pegasus." Just curious.

Alright, that's enough time-wasting trivia. Thanks for reading.

I just learned that AMD's name for the new K7 processor is Athlon as in Decathlon or Triathlon. I saw a car in the parking lot the other day called a Kia Sephia. I think generally that after all these years we're finally running out of good names. Take care.

Corduroy - that's realy trivial, the only reason I'll bother to answer is becuase I'm procrastinating getting my Sunday productive.
(just kidding, nothing is trivial here).

Regarding the Civlian letter, yes we still put them in the knife case and I' sure Danelle can send you a couple (Danelle?).

Names follow no "system". Naming 50 or more models gets very difficult, especially considering all of the names that have already been used and the desire to avoid duplication.

The Civilian was a combination of thoughts; One would more than likely be wearing civilian clothing, the tool is used for civilizing uncivilized people, without pictures (which are not common), one cannot imagine what the model really looks like. (keeping low key)

"Bug" themes, are many and no one seems to be using them, they also go along with the "Spyder".

Endura and Delica are manufactured names (which I like the most) becaue they can be trademarked and protected legally.

Calypso & Pegasus, etc. came from the marketing dept in an effort to find unused names.

We keep a file in Marketing of all of the names that we can find that have ever been used by a knife company. What the name is and who is using it. For our benefit as well as anoy others seeking new names.

We're always looking for good names, received a few on the Native (Chief) thread) although you would be surprized at the number of names that have already been used by a knife company.

Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. I'll ask Danelle about the Civie letters this week. I'm partly an entomology student if you ever need help thinking up "bug" names

So, um...
Why doesn't the Police have a lanyard hole?

Corduroy - The Police doesn't have a lanyard hole because there is not enough room in the handle for one. We tried to add one several years ago, but the maker said it was too difficult to consistantly place the lanyard tube. The Makers in Seki are not using C&C at this time.
