Reapplying the coating on Ka-Bar knife

While I was sharpening up the clip of my brand new 1211 KA BAR knife, I slipped (argh, clumsy me!) and ended up scraping a hunk of the black epoxy off the point. While this is going to be my 'beater' knife, I do intend to repair it later on in the future, when it gets all scratched up or worn, although maybe not as soon as now!

I've been thinking about reapplying the paint to it to protect it from rusting, but I'm wondering how to best go about doing this. I think the "best-best" solution might be for me to take the knife apart, sand off all the existing epoxy paint off the blade, pommel and guard, and then spray and bake it with Durabake, but at the moment I'm not sure how to disassemble it. My knife has the little pin in the pommel (it only goes in one side) and it's recessed beneath the surface of the pommel so I can't just pry it out with pliers, and I figure I may have to drill it out, but I don't have access to a drill press.

If I could avoid taking it apart at all, that'd be boss, but at the moment I'm unsure of what I should do, short of wiping it with oil to protect it from rusting.

Any thoughts, ideas, or anecdotes? Krylon rattlecan paint? Engine Paint? Is there anything that would sort of get that nice black look back, make it consistent and even, without me needing to disassemble the knife?
