Reason for your favorite and most hated knife feature?

We all know we're lunatics right? I mean, on paper, it's difficult to describe the knife hobby/lifestyle without making yourself sound like a completely unhinged individual. Spending thousand of dollars a bunch of high end knives when the whole reason they cost so much is that each one individually would last a lifetime. Not everybody is going to get it.

That said, I only have one friend that is into them on the same level. He's not in a position to collect the really high end stuff, but has a ZT or two and the proverbial Skyline. His "grail" knife is a Strider of some sort. I don't know the model, not a Striderguy myself. Which brings about my question...

I hate frame locks. I do. My buddy of course thinks I'm a moron.

A real shame since nearly ALL of today's "best" knives feature a lock of this sort. There's a reason behind my madness though. I have a NEED for symmetry and I don't like metal handles. Framelocks fail either way. They either have all metal handles and a slight asymmetry or some other handle material and huge asymmetry because the locking scale is metal. Really limits my "high end" prospects.

I had hope for a Mnandi. It uses the integral lock, but it's almost a liner lock since the back inlay overlaps a bit. I don't mind it. They won't do inlays out of any other material though. Weak right? $400 knife and yet you're not open to a custom order occasionally? Wasn't an outrageous request. Not solid gold or anything; just wanted one with emerald/silver twill glass fiber. Was even willing to pay up front and wait a year.

Anyway, anybody else have a favorite or hated feature that narrows your field of prospects?

Comfort for me is #1. Spent alot of money on knives and some just do not work for me, not saying they are bad just not comfy. Spyderco bushcraft seems expensive but my lord its a pleasure to hold and worth every penny. The f1 was horrible for my hands. But and heres a big but I managed to get one recently with micarta scales and again very comfy.

I don't care for metal handles, which rules out most framelocks for me. (Not that I mind--it's a good money-saving limitation :) )

Most hated features are assisted opening and safeties (admittedly I do own two knives with both). Favorite feature is the Spyderhole.

Least favorite - Sharpened pry-bars.
Most favored - FRN and CarbonFiber.

Absolute worst feature--tip down only clip.
I'm generally not a fan of metal handles, though I do own a few. Smooth metal handles are a big no no.
Don't really care for a/o, but do own two knives with it. It just seems like an answer to a question no one is asking. However, if everything else about the knife is right, and/or it will work well de-assisted, then I'm ok with it.
S30V, 8cr, AUS-8, 3cr, etc. Bad experiences with S30V as I've go into length about in other threads. Don't like Chinese steel. AUS-8 is ok, but at the price point I'm at, it better not.
Combo Edges. Used to love them because they looked cool. I'm old now, I know better. No longer a tactifool.

Best feature--Spydie hole or similar and flippers. I'm a guy, what can I say I prefer holes to studs...:cocksure:
Ambidextrous is nice for those of us who are lefties/ambi (like me) but in a world of righties, I've pretty much learned to use their shit. (Though I do use a left handed mouse, rebel that I am)
Uniqueness--if its in a good way. Not the "hey look at me I'm special" but more the "Wow, that's different. "

Not a big deal. Buy the knife and send it to a custom guy. Yes, you'll lose the warranty, but then I've NEVER needed warranty repair for any CRK anyway. Would be very shocked if one broke somehow...

Being left handed I don't like frame locks.

But because I'm lefthanded and don't like frame locks, I'm not broke. So there's that.

Disproportional frame/blade ratio on folding knives. This excludes fixed blades.

Favorite feature - comfortable handle

Most hated - combo edges

Why? I've been around the block enough to know what I like, and what I don't. Simple as that.

Most hated knife feature? Assisted opening blades because there really is no need for it if you have a well designed knife.

My favorite feature? I would have to say it would be a quality thumb stud, if we are talking folders. The best one I have ever found, IMO, is on the US made Kershaw Zing. Put that on a Kershaw Echelon. Now that would be one puss EDC knife!

Choils. Never needed one.

"Long" ricasso on a short knife. Like the Loveless hunters. Don't get it.

Maybe that's why I don't like choils? Just choke up on the handle.

Most hated - Knives you can't dissassemble or ones where disassembly voids the warranty. I can't understand those makers that market their knives to be used in combat, hunting, hard use, etc, and yet you can't take them apart to clean them. Grayman Satu comes to mind.

Most loved - Combat style folders that are also great at EDC, specifically Emerson and Strider. I've had many knives from many different makers and those fit me the best.
