Greetings All,

I have been watching a custom slip joint on a dealer's website for over a year now with the price listed at $1195. Several weeks ago, I saw the same model available on a different website and it was also listed at $1195. I sent an email to both sites asking if they entertain offers or if their prices are firm. Both responded with the same answer; "all reasonable offers considered".

My "reasonable" might not match with either of their "reasonables!". What do you guys think a reasonable offer would be without going into the "low ball" category?

well from my expertise of wheelin' and dealin'(mostly from watching marathons of pawn stars), the best way is to ask them what is the lowest price they'll accept and work from there.

That offer would be what you are willing to pay. If you don't want to go higher---- nothing lost. Maybe 10% less would be fair on a custom.

You could probably get 10% pretty easily (especially if the item has sat a while.) I would try to do a bit better. Just looking at the number, I would ask if it could go out the door for $1000. If the offer is unacceptable to them, then the ball is in their court. Don't worry about being "insulting." They are in the business to sell product, and they know that. If they decline your offer, ask what they would be willing to work out. Right now, you have the edge because apparently it is still available from other sources. A seller would much rather work something out then send you to their competition. At least, that's always been my stand point...

I was going to offer 1K shipped. That seems to be in line with everybody's thoughts. Thanks guys.
