What is a reasonable price to pay for a like-new in tube GEC 62 Pocket Carver with muslin Micarta scales? I've been out of this market for several years.

They were around $85 new. What’s “reasonable” for a GEC on the secondary-market varies greatly depending on who you ask. It really comes down to what you’re willing to pay for it, and understanding that there’s a good chance someone is willing to pay more.

In my somewhat limited experience buying GEC on the secondary market, I would say that the answer to your question very much depends on how patient you are willing to be. I would not be surprised to see one come up for sale in the $120-$150 range for NIT, if you were willing to wait a bit for a decent price. You would likely even get it cheaper if you are willing to accept used or wait longer. Of course, the big auction site is where you find all things GEC for outrageous prices, for those who cannot/willnot wait.

Think I waited way too long to buy any more GEC knives. While waiting, the prices went insane and the only place I ever see them available anymore is on the secondary market.
There is no longer such a thing as a reasonable price. Start with (at least) 3x what you think is reasonable ... unless someone hooks you up.

Ummm ... he did say "reasonable" ...
Who knows though? In five or seven years that might be considered "cheap", and in 20 years "$580 too much!"
There are some seller on there that are shamefully outrageous. Custom knives are more affordable for what you get. GEC is the brand that got me started collecting knives but now I don't pay attention to them at all. I've bought more than a handfull at inflated prices and that can lead to being very dissatisfied when you receive it and realize it wasn't at all worth the money. They do photograph well though.

When researching prices I usually filter for sold items under the auction format. One sold in January with an ending bid of $155. I think that's reasonable but like others have mentioned, it depends on how much you're willing to spend. If you really want it, $200 max imo.

how bad do you want it? they do pop up in the for sale section from time to time.

LOL, some of you saw through me. I do have one already. I've found that if you ask what you should sell one for, there is a frenzy of offers before you even decide to sell it.

As for selling it for what it sold for new, jmh33, that would make me out to be a fool. As for $600 on eBay. That would make me evil and I don't do eBay. Too many crooks.

I'm not a flipper. I bought the 62 when GEC first offered them. I intended to use it but didn't. I stuck to my familiar old cheap carving knives. Now I could use some "knife money".

I will put it up soon for what I think is a fair price, I apologize for not being forthcoming in my original post.

Look forward to seeing it on the Exchange. I'll close this now.
