I have some knives I'd like to sell, but can't find anything about them. One is a set made by Schrade for San Diego Knives, called Gold Rush Commemorative. It consists of a large single blade lockback and a fixed blade hunting knife, both with sheaths, serially numbered and etched blades. They look like standard Schrade knives except for the numbers and etching. The other is a Thompson/Center three blade pocket knife. I once found something on the internet that said this knife was designed by Blackie Collins and was made during a time when there was some dispute or disagreement between T/C and Collins, making it a rare variation. I've not been able to find the site since. Any suggestions on how to evaluate these knives would be appreciated. I'm not looking to overprice these, but not wanting to be taken advantage of either.

The best place to look is e-bay. Take the third bid's price as an indication of approximate worth (at least two people would pay more.) This forum does not allow you to ask about a price for a knife unless you have a paid membership. Rare variations of a production knife are not generally worth more, unless the brand and pattern is highly collectible.

Sorry buddy, only paying members may ask about values. And even then it would be nearly impossible to guess without good pictures because so much of the value is dependent on condition. So yeah, your best bet is to watch eBay for the same knives in similar condition.

If you merely would like to know more about your knives, take some good pictures and post your question in the Bernard Levine Knife Identification area here at Bladeforums.

We also have a special Collectors sub-forum just for Schrade Knives. If those guys don't know about your Gold Rush Commemorative, probably nobody does. ;)
