Reassembly tips?

I'm accused of being a craftsman and I'm usually pretty good with this kind of thing.
For some reason I'm having difficultly attaining the alignments that a knife had before disassembly.
Lock alignments and blade centering are giving me problems.
I can get the blade centered without too much trouble, but the lock bar travel is almost always much further than before.
Chris Reeve knives and a William Henry blade always align perfectly, all my other knives (Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade) are fidget intensive.
Any tips or tricks to be able to reassemble a knife so it has the proper alignments every time?
I've tried assembling with the blade closed, open, partially open, tried changing screw tightening sequences... I'm out of ideas.

Any models in particular? I would guess you are talking about liner/ frame locks?

I have never had a problem when I have disassembled knives but I also don't have much reason to take them apart in the first place. I can clean and lube them just fine put together.

Yeah, liner and frame locks.
I guess I've mostly been taking apart Benchmades so most of my issues have been with centering the blade. The BM 760 Lum was troublesome, but doable. Had to fidget with the frame lock and blade alignments.
Haven't taken apart a lockback yet.
ZT 301 - troublesome but doable, ZT 350 - lock travel and blade alignment, Spyderco Military - was able align it but it was a fidget session.
The issues I've had with the lock alignments on the liner locks have me wary of taking apart any other similar locking blades. I just like to know that there's lock tight on all the screws.
I really want to explore all of my knives but the failures I've had pretty much tell me to perhaps think twice before I tinker.
