I received my Reate Hills this morning, and after playing with it for a few hours I figured I'd share some thoughts (and pictures). I have been wanting a higher end Chinese knife for a while, but none of Kizer's designs worked for me. I have heard great things about Reate's knives, so when I saw this model I knew it was the one for me. I have heard these knives compared to customs that cost 2-3 times as much, but I don't think that is a fair comparison. However, I do think that the Hills compares favorably to the popular flippers in its price range like the ZT 801 and the Spyderco Domino and Southard.

The flipping action is snappy, the handle is ergonomic, and many little details have been considered. The edges are all chamfered comfortably and blade centering is perfect. I would recommend this knife to all of my fellow flipper lovers.

Awsome, mine should be heading my way today. Any blade play what so ever? Thats the biggest fear of mine and something I always think about when buying from a company I've never bought from before.

Nope, rock solid. The body screws were actually a little loose at first, but after tightening those everything was good.

Nice looking knife, man. My friend was texting me this morning about Reate Knives.

How's the retention on the pocket clip?

Thanks! It's fairly tight, but the smooth handle makes it slide easily in and out of the pocket. The retention is very similar to the ZT 770 (the aluminum handled one).

Thanks, man! I appreciate that.

Back to your Hills, how's the flipping on it? Is it like the 0801? Or surpass it?

I like the clean design of this knife.

The action is very similar to the 801. My 801CF is actually a little smoother, but both open with the same snappy authority.

I'm have the pass around now. I've been really impressed with it so far . The fit and finish is top notch especially in its price range. I think it is smoother than my 801 and definitely a better flipper than my Hinderer.

Do you know how many people have had it before you? I wonder if mine just needs to break in a little more.

I'm 2nd one to have it. When I took it apart the caged bearings and washers had a thick coat of red grease on them. I thought it was a little much for caged bearings,I cleaned the pivot area and wiped most of the grease off the bearings and it's MUCH smoother now. All that grease in there is a lint magnet, especially with its stop pin design(which also works as a bottle opener BTW!)

Very interesting, I'll have to give that a shot when I get mine back. My girlfriend took it until Christmas
