Good Afternoon,

Gotta say I'm loving my Reates except for the fact that I have a stripped screw on my Horizon A at the moment and I've been quoted $25 for a few screws from China.

Has anyone been successful in finding replacements stateside?

David had told me previously about the Horizon B frame screw being M2.5 x 4mm however when I purchased that same size - it didn't fit.

Maybe a measurement issue?

Any and all opinions welcome. Thanks

Ralph

I have had decent luck with ace hardware. Many time the screw is a bit long in which you need a bit of know how. I would see if you have a fastenall near you or search the mcmaster carr website as those two have the biggest selection of screws i have found. And if you do have a fastenall near you just bring a screw with you and they will do their best to match it. You could also contact that guy who makes fancy ti hardware and see if he can make some for you. I could see a lot of reate guys wanting sets.

Thanks for the advice man. Turns out there is a local Fastenal near by. Will check them out. When I do I'll reply to the thread with my findings

Ace was my first choice but no luck with them.

Any others please feel free to chime in

Try a knife maker supplier, like Alpha Knife Supply, or UKM......

I would think that they would have a large selection of handle screws with the proper thread spacing and size/length.

Thing is I don't know the exact measurements and when I measured the frame screws on my Horizon B and purchased the size online they didn't fit correctly

I am not sure what to say man.

Personally, Reate could be a little more helpful on a scale screw, but that's just my humble opinion....

At least maybe ask David to double check the size and thread. If he told you one thing, and it doesn't fit, it's not correct.

McMastercarr has a very large and diverse selection of screws.

Knifekits.com also sells a variety of screws commonly used for knives.

I'd keep checking the local hardware stores. Often they'll have a section of pull out drawers with the small screws in it.
My local store has 0-80, 1-72, 2-56, 3-48 and 4-40. They also have metric sizes as well.

While paying a little bit more, the advantage of buying local is that you visually compare to your screws and try them out if you have the knife in hand. Then you can buy only what you need and avoid a big shipping cost for a very small item.

Checked Fastenal and American Fasteners (local store) and neither had the size I was looking for.

Will continue looking and update with results.

This applies to more than knives. If you want get replacement screws, you have to specify the diameter, the thread pitch, the length, the material, the finish, and the head type. For diameter measurements, a caliper or micrometer is handy. For pitch, thread gauges are useful. US gauges measure Threads Per Inch. Metric gauges measure Millimeters Per Thread. Length can be adjusted if the screw is too long. A magnet will distinguish between steel and non steel screws. Head types you can Google. Thread size charts can be Googled. If you know the correct dimensions, you can order on line.
