I am looking at buying a new folder and I don't know if I should pre order a Reate Horizon C or wait for something like the 0452CF or the 0808 from ZT to come out. I would be using the knife for general edc tasks. Also if there is another folder under $300 that you think is a better deal let me know! I am new to the forums and the knife community so any suggestion would be appreciated!

So far my experience with reate has been top notch. Also consider that as far as I know there is no set release date for those new zt's, so you could be waiting months. I personally love the looks of the C, so I would go with that one.

Really depends on what you are looking at in a folder.

Right at $300 is the TSF Beast.

Spyderco has the Rubicon, upcoming Firefly, Slysz Bowie, Farid K2, Southard, Dice, Domino. There's Lionsteel, Kizer, Southern Grind Bad Monkey, Brous Bionic and T4, just to name a few.

As far as ZT goes, I own a 0561, 0770CF, and 0801. All fabulous knives.

How long a blade do you want? What type of blade steel? liner or frame lock? What type of scales?

Honestly none of these knives have hit yet so no one is going to be able to do anything but speculate. And you know you best.

For that price range its hard to go wrong with either a Spyderco Southard, ZT0562, or ZT0561. Some people also like the domino very well, not my favorite but one to possibly consider.

In a non-flipper, I love my Slysz Bowie as well as CRK 21 LG Insingo and CRK 25 (might be able to find a used one if its your style)

Just curious, how are you "new to the knife world" but you're aware of, and seriously contemplating buying, a Reate flipper??
Is Reate THAT famous now?? Is the hype behind the Horizon-C seriously at such high levels that people who are new to knives are all over it??

I only ask because I want one myself and I'm not really digging all this competition...

So you only want to buy Reate if no one else has heard of it? Are you like the hipster of the knife world or something?

Where did the dude say he was new to the knife world? He said he was new to this forum. Last time I checked this forum isn't the knife world, though it does have its finger on the pulse, obviously.

Or maybe new is a subjective term. I'm fairly new to this forum and the knife world and I've heard about reate.

You cant go wrong with the reate. ZT is great too , but those models you like might not be out until the fall.Another thing I like about reate is when a model is shown for the new year, its available in the 1st 2 months of the year, not 9 months into the year..
