I was curious, if I had a sebbie that was really scratched up on the handles, and wanted to have them rebeadblasted, could a local machine shop, do it, so where it would look just the same as if it came from Chris Reeve, I think it would be nice to do it that way, thank have to send it away for a couple of weeks, any thoughts on this??

I do my own. I have a blast cabinet and use 120 grit aluminum oxide. With my compressor set at 25 psi and the piece held 12" from the gun they look like new!

The trouble with blasted ti handles is that they scuff so easily. After a mouth or two of owning a new seb I usually polish them down to a flat matt finish where they can easily be maintained.

...be sure to tape-off the lock face that makes contact with the blade tang. You'll be able to see where it was done before at the Reeve shop. You don't want to lose any surface area there during the blasting process, and you also want to protect your ceramic detente at the same time.

Professor.

Another blasting option is using Zirblast. It's a ceramic media that Kit Carson turned me on to. If any of you kind folks happen to collect customs like Carsons, Obenaufs and JW Smith's, the bolsters on these knives are blasted with Zirblast. The "finish" is more jeweled, with more refractions light than aluminum oxide provides.
You can hide alot of finish flaws with aluminum oxide, whereas your prep work towards ceramic needs to be extensive. Ceramic media is probably closer to stonewashing in finished appearance.

Good luck!
