Hi guys
do any of you have a 112 or 110 that has been rebladed? if so can you post a picture I had a couple rebladed and they ground .190 off the 112 and .170 off the 110 I talked with Matt at buck and he stated that this is normal. 0369C93C-D3E9-4431-9C32-3FF9B7B0959E.jpeg5BEA933B-2919-49FD-BBE1-41E964E19D42.jpeg

I have not, but want to make sure I'm following what you're saying....

ground off due to refinishing or polishing the scales and bolsters?

The bolster is tapered. If you look at the picture with the caliper the tips are at the start of the bolster and you can see the gap at the end. Yes they ground off the bolster I‘m not sure why it had to be ground like that. That is why I’m asking about other that have had blades replaced.

railsplitters looks like both sides are tapered...yours appears only blade side is tapered....

did Buck say why they do it, out of curiousity....

My two dot 112 came home with a new blade and bolsters tapered very much like in the OP's photos. However, I expected that to happen because when I sent it, it was badly damaged and they needed to hog off some brass to get rid of that.

Buck said it’s part of the reblading process. It would be nice it there was a statement about that on the warranty page.

If it needs a reblade, it is time for retirement.

Tapered bolstered is a sign of a severly reconditioned Buck, usually done by the factory. I got a great price drop on a 532 by noticing the the tapered bolster which led me to a small pit too deep to buff out. I pointed it out and the priced droppd from 125 to 65. The Buck reblade-reconditioned service makes any old minty Buck suspect. If it's old and looks mint, buyer beware.

Hmm. In my opinion, if it needs a reblade, then it is time for a reblade.

The bolsters have to be refinished to flush the new frame pins. How much depends a little on how bad the bolsters were to begin with. No way around it and to be expected.
A rebladed knife can be made to be fully functional and look bright and shiny but is still a 'used' knife.

I have a 2 Dot 110 that was rebladed in 2009 that has the tapered bolsters. So it has been done that way since at least then. I never noticed they were tapered until this post.

I received an email about the process they do to re-blade. The gentleman they have doing it has been doing it for 33 years and to make sure the new blade stays tight and fits correctly they have to remove some material.

I’m happy to have the 112 back it’s been and in working condition.
