Rebuilding knives of Alaska knife... Is it worth it??

So I have this knives of Alaska folding knife. I've had it since I started deer hunting about 15 years ago. The blade is great with the D2 steel but it ends at that. The handle is garbage. The pivot is really poorly made and all around I dislike everything about it.

That being said my dad did buy me this knife and their is some sentimental value.

So how possible is it to take the blade and have the rest made? And would it be worth it. If it's going to cost a fortune to do id rather just leave it and use a different knife.

Thanks in advance, Justin

Your probably going to spend (at the very least) over $100 more than what the knife is worth. I would keep it as is, then go find a knife that has a better handle with a similar blade style. That shouldn't be too hard to do.

Yeah I'm already getting a custom knife from a guy on here. But figured I'd see if there was hope for this one

You didn't post a pic so I don't know HOW bad it is but I thought KOA's were pretty good knives.

As your dad gave it to you, can you try to send it back to KOA, telling them the story, to see if they can do anything with it? If not, maybe send it to a custom maker for something 'restorative,' replacing the pivot and salvaging as much as they can. Or at least sending the blade and have a new custom built around it...still ending up with something unique with sentimental value. Just a couple of last ditch ideas. I have a few my dad gave to me and I'd never get rid of them.

It won't cost a fortune but it will cost something. I think the finished product will be worth more to you though.

I'll have to take a few pictures. My dads still around so I may be able to get another knife to take its place at this point. And not have mixed feelings about it. But it has been the knife from day one of me hunting. I'm laying in bed at the moment but maybe I'll get some pictures posted. The knife just has a very cheap feel for being a nice knife. Not sure if that will translate in pictures. But I'll see what I can do.
