The following recalls have been announced:

-- About 149,000 Gerber Gator Machetes and 6,000 Gator Machetes Jr., manufactured in China and imported by Gerber Legendary Blades of Portland, Ore., a division of Fiskars Brands Inc. of Madison, Wis. The machetes are recalled because the saw side can get stuck in wood while in use, allowing the user's hand to slip forward across the blade. The company has received five reports of people needing stitches after cutting themselves while using Gator Machetes, but no reports of injuries for the junior version. Hmm. Do other knife companies initiate recalls? Gerber is the only one I've ever seen that has an AP press release. First with the EAB and now with these machetes.
 
The last batch of Gerber Gator Machete Jrs I received, had lanyards installed, with instructions not only how to use them, but also a statement that the lanyards should to be used to prevent the hand slipping up onto the blade.

Sounds like this has been in the wind for a while.

Gerber is the only one I've ever seen that has an AP press release.

Wire services, like AP, AFP and Reuters, will send out product recall notices to their entire subscriber lists. often, they'll do it at no cost to the manufacturer.

it's when recall notices are ordered by a court that newspapers, not wire services, charge a bundle.
