Hi, first post here.

I've read a couple of threads about favorite tactical folders and there are so many suggestions in there, which have been helpful in letting me figure out what I want.

I want to buy a folder with a fairly long blade that comes as close it can to the 710 in terms of aesthetics (i like the modified clip point) and functionality in the sub $100 range. I apologize if it's a stupid question, but I'm not quite educated to everything that's out there and I'm hoping you guys can save me some time.

What kind of blade can I expect? I've owned a few kershaws and buck knives in the past, but they were in the $20-40 range, so I'm hoping to graduate to something a little more durable.

I would go ahead and get the benchmade 710 with the d2 blade, but with Christmas rolling around, I don't want to be naughty and spoil only myself. Santa wouldn't approve.

Thank you, and if i missed anything, please let me know.

$100.00 is high priced for a folder to me.

I'd suggest something like a Spyderco Police or for a few bucks for the Spyderco Military.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't like the holes on the spydercos. They seem to make the folded knife wider than necessary and it irks me a bit, visually...

the hole on the HK ally, I don't mind so much, and if there's nothing much better in the price range, I might satiate my appetite with that. But I would prefer a thumbstud and a slightly longer blade.

You can find the 710 for $100 or less if you shop the exchange here or the auction site.

Honestly I would just go with the 710. If that is what you like so far then go for it. It is worth it to spend a little extra money to get what you want.

Seems almost too simple, but BM 551 Griptilian? 154CM isn't as hard as D2 but is slightly tougher and easier to sharpen. Blade is about 3.5" drop point with a thumb stud. You can find it for $65-70 shipped.

I agree with the above poster in that if you like the 710, then get it. More likely than not, you'll be unsatisfied with anything else and end up buying the 710 sometime down the road.

BM 530?

Lone Wolf Blackfoot? Haresy t1 is probably too short..?

Al Mar Eagle?

A Browning Ice Storm (made by Mcusta) Around $30+ and don't let the price fool you, one of the best bangs for the buck in knifedom.

Cold Steel Voyager?

mikejungle,

I am with the rest of these guys, I have the:

BM 710 $115 shipped new in box. Awesome knife.

BM 551 Griptilian - another awesome blade, found mine on eBay for $53 shipped!

Police3 G-10 $115 shipped new in box.

Military G-10 $110 shipped new in box.

Endura4 G-10 Sage, Plain edge for $84 shipped new in box.

I say if you want the BM710 get it, why fuss over $10 bucks.

The Griptilian is a steal at what they're selling them for and the Endura4 G-10 is at poorfish.com for $84.93 last time I checked and it's the little brother of a Police3 and real handful!!

Ain't knife shopping great!! :D

Haha...I think you guys have me convinced...

I'll just wait til after christmas or something to get the 710. It's so purty.

im seeing a bm 710 for 100 dollars with 10 dollars for shipping online right now, they dont cost too much over 100

Get the knife you want, its fun 10-20 bucks, aint going to make you no more richer or no more poor
