Well I've sketched up a knife I'd love to see in steel and it's time to start casting about for a maker. I know we've got several here on the boards so I figured with a little help from you lot I'd be able to pair up with just the right maker. Here's what I'm looking to get:

-Folder
-Fighter
-Utilitarian
-Don't want a pretty knife I want something that looks like John Greco, Mick Strider and Newt Livesay looked at and said, "well it'll work but god is it ugly"
-Liner lock
-Steel? Hell I don't know that will be one of the details we'll work out.
-G-10 handle scales
-I want it to look clean like something Bud Nealy would put out.
-Gotta be something I can afford My price range tops out at just under $300. I realise that's bottom of the barrel for some, but I'm looking for a maker who's gonna say, "let's see the sketch and we'll see what we can work up."
-Need someone who's gonna be patient with a first timer.

Send me some reccomendations, Knife makers please feel free to contact me. Thanks for the help guys. Naturally if and when it comes to fruition I'll make sure we get some pics up.

A totally custom folder for $300 is probably not going to happen. Folder design is really tricky, so most likely the maker would have to do a lot of redesign work. Your best bet would be to post a message and a picture in the Shop Talk forum and see if anyone there is interested. Good luck!

The most affordable custom heavy-duty folders I know of are DMKnives - David Mosier. a little higher than your range, $350-450 or so. Not ugly, but I think he'd make one ugly if you wanted ... I have a big chunky Instigator 2 folder of his, and love it.
