Hi, I've been looking at EDC assisted openers for a while, and I'm not sure what I want.

I need something:
About 3"
Under $90ish
Something not too bulky
Decent quality, etc.

So far, I realllly like the Kershaw Leek. Problem is, I'm getting sick of wobbly blades with liner locks, and I'm afraid the leek will just be another wobbly piece of crap after a month... I think the stud lock on the mini mojo and speed bump looks like a sweet idea, but haven't seen it in person. Although, the curved blades seem like they'd be harder to sharpen. I haven't seen any other knives with stud locks either. What are your opinions on them? Also, please feel free to suggest any other knives.

Have no fear.

What wobbly pieces of crap have you used?

Well, I haven't bought anything new in quite a while, but it seems all my liner locks are loose or wobbly, and the others are perfectly fine.

I had both a Leek and a Shallot, and I preferred the Leek. I say that only because the difference between the two knives is personal preference. Both are fantastic knives backed by an equally fantastic company.
If you're willing to drop the money, I'd suggest a composite model. Light, thin, sleek, and it'll keep an edge like nobody's business.

I just grabbed a cpl Leeks for my collection the other day. They seem to be great light use everyday knife, but I can't see myself working it that hard cause the blade seems a little light for my liking. I ended up giving one to my gf. I would look into the Blur or something by Benchmade, I just got to see a cpl for the first time and I'm blown away by their assisted opening.

The Packrat from Kershaw Guy is good too if you want to save money. It is a linerlock however. BTW, I'm a huge fan of the Shallot, own a few and NEVER a problem. He has them at a steal. For overall quality the 585 Benchmade is great and lifetime warranty with lifetime sharpening. Oh it fires HARD and locks up TIGHT!!

Don't worry about anything Kershaw becoming wobbly.

I'm partial to the Shallots myself. It's a bit bigger then the Leek. If you could spend a bit more the Spec Bump is an awesome knife.

My leek has stayed tight, no adjustments necessary. It's also a pretty sturdy lock (framelock) for such a small blade. The G10 model's liner lock is way less sturdy, though, so be careful. Mine didn't have any blade play issues, but the liners were pretty thin. In short, I wouldn't worry about wobble in a Leek :D

In fact, I've had a much bigger problem with blade wiggle in an Axis lock knife: my Benchmade Presidio had up and down and side-to-side blade wiggle out of the box. I sent it back to the store, and they sent me a replacement...which had just as much blade wiggle.

I just got a Mini Barrage and it is a GREAT knife. I am really surprised how much I like it. Great blade shape, axis lock locks up killer tight with no play, and it is a solid knife (dual steel liners). Some people complain that the plastic handles feel "cheap," but I disagree. They feel solid through and through. Not like a plastic handled Grip, which feels a bit hollow to me.

$49 from Kershaw Guy... what a freaking awesome knife:cool:
...and tight as a... well, very tight.. very tight indeed

I second Doc's suggestion. My 585 is one of the smoothest AO's I own and gets better with use. Good buy for the money - and all we need are factory upgrade G-10 scales to replace the Valox production versions, but that's just my gripe, it's not a huge 'buy breaker.'

Have the Barrage but the 580. AO works great if the Mini is as good, should be a great knife. That said, it's a bit bulky and I usually prefer G10 scales.

My preferred Mini is the Benchmade 907, Mini Nitrous Stryker with liner lock, G10 scales, and 3", modified drop point, D2, blade. It's a slick, slim and quality knife.

Give it a look.

sog trident is fantastic, I have it in this digi camo version but there are several options
