Reccomendation

I'm thinking about getting my father a nice gents folder, something from Queen. I'm looking at doctor's, jack's, and maybe utility patterns. Any reccomendations for a lighly-used EDC knife? (opening enveloped, packages, etc)

Also, what about scales? I definitely want a natural material, but I know he won't care for it very much. Stag and CoBo look like good choices, but what about pearl? Is it durable enough for an EDC, or should I stick to Stag?

I have a jigged pearl Queen Doctor's knife and it is very nice! Just handling it will keep it nice, as the oils from our skin keep the pearl from drying out....or so I've been told. I would use a small pocket pouch to protect against scratches and the like.

Don't know about the other materials, but the Carved Stag Bone is top notch!

Go with the bone or cocoblolo scales. Pearl is by far the most fragile choice.
