Today, I received a "black" Pocket Hobbit that I had traded one of my Cold Steel knives for. (I only had to wait 2 days for it!.

I'm again in "REKAT Heaven", as this one is MEAN-looking, and SMOOTH in both its' opening AND closing, with NO "gritiness" at all!.

...This now makes 5 REKAT folders I have, with a Hobbit Fang Neck Knife "on the way" on Monday!!!.

I know what you mean Dann! I think I just secured a green numbered Sifu. I sent the Money Order off today! That will be my first Sifu! I only have two Carnivore Cubs(one green and one black), Pocket Hobbit, two Pioneer II's and two of the Bladeforums red/black Carnivores. Now I need to find a green Carnivore.

I have a black PH too. What a knife. It's the only folder that I own and refer to as a "figher." It's beyond being a tactical folder. It's a fighter that just happens to fold. And it's so beautiful in it's ugliness...

Damn, Dann!! You've been hit with rekatitis!! How do you like the pocket hobbit? I've been wanting one of those! How are your pioneer, cub, and carnivore holding up?

Easyrider - did you secure that green handled sifu through the contact I sent you? Just curious to see if it worked out.

Antdog, that Sifu was all ready spoken for. There was another Sifu up for sale, but someone else beat me to it. Well the deal with the original person fell through, and the seller gave me a second chance at it.

The money has been sent and I'm waiting for the man in the brown truck to show up.

Am still puzzled quite a bit by the PH and the Warrior. I understand that the serrations/whatever on the spine of the blade are solely/primarily intended for "grabbing" in a particular style of knife fighting taught by Bob Taylor. What I don't understand is what happens when one uses the blade to stab? Isn't there a great likelihood of the blade "hanging up" on those serrations? Making it difficult to remove the knife after a deep stab?

In the style/philosophy I "support/??" speed stabs are probably the single most oft used technique. Getting stuck with knife at arm's length would be exceedingly dangerous with that style.

Can anyone explain for me -- in non-martial arts language -- what the intended purpose of the spine serrations is, and whether/how much they would impact knife withddrawal on stabs? I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks,

The teeth on the back of the blade are made for "trapping" or controlling an opponent's arm. If you can picture the way you would hook someone's wrist or elbow with a short stick or your hand, those teeth are there to do the same thing. On a stab, or the removal of a stab, they shouldn't hang up if they're sharp enough. If they do seem to hang up you can always cut towards the plain edge as you withdraw the knife. The Hobbit was made for a specific, reverse grip fighting style. If your style is quick forward grip stabs, dagger or jail style, this may not be the best knife for that, or some modification may be necessary. I know that Bob Taylor made some videos, I don't know if he made one with the Hobbit, but if he did that should be more help to you than anything anyone could say here.
