I snagged the last BK5 that was on Ebay, received it today, and I am a happy camper. If I had know they were this well made, weight, profile etc, I would have bought a few years ago and stashed them.
Since this is a camp knife, how good is it for meat slicing, raw and cooked, veggies and other food items?

I just got mine yesterday. It puts me in mind of a butcher knife in some regards, so it looks like it would be great for cooking. Back when I was a boy, my parents ran a general, country store, and we used a similarly shaped knife to cut hoop cheese. I think my mom still has it.

I agree though that the BK-5 is a versatile design for camp chores.

If I can find a machine shop to do it for me, I want to take one of my BK9s and have it milled thinner, full flat grind, and reshaped like the BK2, but it might cost way to much as machine shops are not known for being cheap.

Well, strip that black stuff off, polish the blade up and let's hear how they cut guys......

I'd be sure it was a machine shop capable of doing the work without damaging the heat treat. You might wind up with a soft piece of metal. Wonder if a local knifemaker might be a better choice?

I'm interested in your design changes though. Keep us posted if you take the plunge.

Check out local Saw/knife sharpening shops or do like I did and buy a cheap 1x30 belt sander and a bunch of belts.

My BK2 almost has a nice flat grind to the blade now compared to what it was.

Harbour Frieght most likely has a cheap sander around $40-50.00 range.

A BK5 was my first BK&T.

l've used it as much as a butcher knife as a machete and it excels at both.

Yeah it slices great. Wait till you use it on a watermelon or cantalope. You'll be hooked.
