Thanks to the folks at Boker, I'm now the owner of a Black combo edge Trance. Decided it'll be my sole knife for work and off hours for the next few weeks so I can give it a good review after spending time with it. Initial impressions are favorable. Both sections of the edge came shaving sharp, the grip is very comfortable for me and the whole package is thin and light enough to sit rather unnoticably in the pocket when clipped. Dropped in the pocket it's comfortable as well, but I'm going to try carrying this one clipped for a while, something I don't normally do, just to experience it as it was sent to me from factory. Here's a few quick photos, can get more later.

Nice

I definitely need to get myself a Trance now that I have a good idea of what size the knife really is (thanks for the pics).

It seems like it won't be too threatening so I can replace my SAK with it.

Keep us posted with how you like it after some use.

I just received my Black Combo Trance today. It was strictly an impulse buy for me. I really didn't need a new knife but I liked the looks of it in the Boker catalog. So, what the heck, it's only money right ;) I'm going to give it a try as my off duty EDC for awhile. I'll give my Delica a break. So far I'm pretty impressed for a 44 dollar knife. I've never owned a Boker before, first time for everything..........

Later,
Wedge

Vivi,
I see we both hail from the same community. Small world.........:D

Indeed, what town are you in?

I've had nothing but positive results from my use of the black Trance. It's been wet and sweaty on many occaisons and hasn't shown any rust on the edge bevel or any of the coated spots. The serrations have held their edge well, while I've touched up the PE tip a few times. One of my favorite things about this knife has been how easily it's carried. You can hardly notice it most the time. The flipper takes some practice, but now that I'm used to it I can use it pretty well. The lock-up has remained perfect and there hasn't been excessive lockbar movement across the tang. I'm very satisfied, I'll have to order a PE Trance soon.

Mahalo EVERYONE for your support and nice pics!

BTW, FWIW Vivi, I left my Black Trance covered in pineapple juice straight from a fresh cut pineapple for about a day. I figured the acidity of the juice would wreck the coat, at least where the edge is. I rinsed it off, and didn't even re-lube it, and it was perfect.

Again, thanks all, and God bless:cool:

Is it truly a flipper or a finger guard ?. I've had no luck opening the knife via the flipper. It will open slightly but I've yet to get it to open fully using only the flipper. However using the thumbstud with a straight push forward, it snaps open like an assisted knife.

I think it's intended more as a guard, but if you give it a good wrist flick when you push the flipper it will work. It took me some practice to get used to it but I can open it like that with about a 90% success rate now. It's not like my JYD2 where I can just push the flipper and open the knife with no wrist movement at all.

I just tried the thumbstud method you mentioned and it works pretty good for me, but my thumb keeps touching the blade when it opens, making it difficult for it to fully engage. I'll have to practice it some.

You don't happen to be on the North Canton Police Force do you? If so you might of stopped me for skateboarding a few times.

I agree with Vivi. Using the flipper will take some practice and a flick of the wrist. It's just like the flipper on my CRKT Lightfoot M1 which isn't an AO, but with a flick of the wrist opens just like one.

Unless you do a 5-0 grind on the edge of my desk, I don't see myself busting your balls for boarding :D. We generally leave the skaters alone unless something else is going on..........

You guys are some of the friendliest LEO's I've encountered actually. It's one of the nice things about this city, that when you do get stopped for something you're treated with courtesy.

Keep us posted how the trance holds out in edc. I edc spyderco knives for hard use in general. But i think Boker has a long tradition in making knives and they hold out!!!
So keep us posted.

Hi Wedge, I have the original Trance. It is both a flipper and a guard. Here is a few photos that almost show the flipping action...:p:o
Begin flip action:

Right after you start to push on the "flipper" give your knife a wrist flick. Hard to capture on a regular camera but it helps if blade is out approximately this far while starting the flick. Basically as you push the bar move your whole wrist in the same direction (in picture move wrist or hand to the left while pushing bar. Then, quickly snap the wrist/arm to the right to snap open.:

Then click! It snaps into place. ;)

Harder to explain than to do.

congrats on the Trance Vivi! thanx for the pix ....
Yeah the flipper requires a moderate wrist snap to open the blade which is quite easy with a little practice..... but I love the Trance's "blade to weight" ratio..... Lots of usable edge in a lightweight package.......one great EDC folder....

I received the Trance also thanks to Chad and Boker Mahalo much guys . What can i say its been an absolute joy from day one but from what i`ve seen from CLB designs Boker has really brought Chads designs to life with great quality !

Thanks a bunch Chad and Best wishes bro !
