The Boker jigged red bone Stockman I bought off eBay just arrived. WOW!!!!...beautiful fit and finish. good snap to the springs, and very sharp blades. Sometimes I notice that on a new slipjoint only the main blade will be fully sharpened....not the case here....all three blades are equally imressively sharp ! Also this stockman has rounded bolsters...I like the rounded bolsters for pocket carry. I paid $28 shipped for the knife and if I had paid twice as much as that I would not have been disappoined. 1095 carbon blades, exceptional fit and finish, "snappy" springs......these knives are 1st class !

This is the knife I am talking about. I was looking for a new stockman, then decided not get one. That is until rev_jch contacted me about one he had and would be willing to part with. I caved, I could no longer resist the sirens call. This Boker was exactly what I was looking for. It's nice to buy a knife that a fellow forum member that has already hand picked. It takes a lot of the guess work out especially for people who order online. Besides that rev_jch is a really, really great guy. I would also like to thank Gramps, he responded to my questions about his and that just sent me over the edge. Since I have only had mine for a few hours I obviously can't say anything other than confirm what Gramps has already said in the above post.

It is a very nice knife and well worth what they are selling for. If your looking for a nice carbon steel blade, 4" stockman that won't break the bank and you can be proud of, look no further.

They should have the process down pat.
I too have some really nice BOKER pocketknives, mostly congresses and several of their 2-blade 5" folding hunters. All good stuff!!!

Nice knife. I want to get a Boker. Anybody know anything about the new Grand Canyon series by Boker? I find it kind of strange that the new Grand Canyons retail at around $35.00 and the Boker rosewood handle 4 inch stockman is going for double that price at many dealers. Is it that much better?

......I've had my eye on a Grand Canyon Copperhead. If they are remotely as nice as the carbon Pick Bone Stockman I have I'm sure I'll be real happy.

Congratulations on your new Stockman Yam.....let us know how "she" handles for you after to get to carry her for a bit.

Nice knife Yam, I also like round bolsters. I am gonna have to look around and check the Bokers out. Could be I really need one. ;)

Nice catch!
I have 3 different 7474 handle patterns. One is probably from the 50s or 60s, as the attention to detail in the logo and on the tang of all 3 blades is so precise, and the black rough handles are patina likened to drk brown bone-this one also has a leather punch instead of a spey. My dad found it on the ground and gave it to me in the 80s-good karma due to the fact that I found the exact model in middle 3-3/8" sized version laying in the snow in the early 70s, and gave it to him at that time. Probably is why I like these so much.
The other 2-7474's are more recent, a rosewood carbon steel, and a stainless stag.
They all sharpen and carry wonderfully.
Congrats on your new one

I'm really liking this knife quite a lot. It's sharpened up very nicely on my fine india stone and a few passes on a ceramic rod. I have never had a good carbon steel bladed pocket knife and this Boker is a real treat. It takes a nice edge and cuts very nicely. The blades are thin (not too thin though) which makes them nice slicers and I can see why whittlers like them. I didn't really need to touch the blades up, but I did anyhow on the ceramic rod. Used it on some poly rope, cardboard and an apple, just run of the mill stuff I have to cut while out and about. Eventually, I will try my hand at some simple whittling, might be kind of fun. It rides nicely in my pocket, especially with the rounded bolsters and slightly rounded blade spines, very comfortable.

I had a chance to do a side by side comparison to a Buck 301 and a Buck 303 Companion (both USA made). Though the Bucks are nice, this Boker is just more refined in every way. It's also slightly heavier than the 301. The little extra weight is nice. Makes it feel more substantial, like comparing real gold to gold plated jewelry, that's the best way I can describe it. Don't get me wrong, if you had the Bucks, you'd have nice serviceable knives, that have a great warranty, and would last a life time. I just like the Boker more and am very glad I got it (thanks rev_jch!).

This is now my user, no drawer queen here. So it will eventually get dinged and beat up a bit, which is exactly as it should be. :)

Thanks again rev_jch and Gramps, you guys are top notch!

Mike,
Im glad to hear that you are liking that knife! The blades are thin, but this I do know, a thin blade cuts much better!!! If you look at allot of the old winchesters, and others (not new knives) they had thin blades also, thin blades cut so much better, and much easier to sharpen. This is good, especially if you are whittling, or doing allot of cutting, or fine cutting. I have, and owned allot of knive, and the thinner baldes are much better. These boker red bone series are much more like the older quality. Ganted they are partly machince produced, but they are also, partly, hand made. They have the old pinned on shields, carbon steel blades, and have the "nice old" thin blades many older SJ's use to have. They are a great value when you compare them to case's glued in shields, overall poor fitting (of most case knives these days), and 420 blades. Dont get me wrong, I still enjoy case knives, but when Im picking through knives, I may have to pick through three bokers until I find one I like, but when I pick through cases, it could be six before I find a goood one.

Contrary, to popular belief, a thicker blade is not always better ;) !

Glad your enjoying your knife Mike :) !!!! They are nice knives :D
