What in tarnation is that there 'sposed to be? Tuuvan throat singing???

Interesting statistics you might be interested in.
bout 2800 people voted countywide in the last general election.

The DA has been hiding out from an incident in Reno four months ago in which he drove a one week old county car completely over a fire hydrant near the Peppermill and managed to get away and stash the car til it got fixed. They caught him later, drunk as a skunk, but couldn't prove it was him behind the wheel.

Apparently some of the paperwork got lost?

Anyway, the DA has to authorize submission of background checks in non-criminal matters ( such as for business licenses, casino workers, CCW permits... )

After four months of him being invisible the Sheriff grabbed his inbox off the DA's desk and discovered 129 CCW applications that nothing had been done on. Per the State Attorney General, the County Comissioners could authorise a change of regulation that would give the Sheriff permission to submit checks himself. That is being done now.

What interested me was 129 applications, 3 times a year, adds up to about 390 pistol permits a year. They are good for 5 years before needing to be renewed. Five years at say 400 apps a year adds up to 2000 permits issued in the county.

As I said, 2800 people voted in the last election. People who carry tend toward a more active role in local government. Therefore they ought to me prominent among voters.

That suggests that 5 out of 7 Mineral County voters pack more than just a ballot. Figured it made an interesting demographic you might enjoy. ;) :p :D

Someone just might conclude that there's a far lower percentage of sheeple in Mineral County than one might find in New York City. Oops, gotta go rewind and take "Death Wish" back to the video store.

Oh, forgot to mention. Hawthorne holds the largest weapons depot in the world. Am going to talk with a couple of Commisioners bout taking a discarded bomb case, putting it at bumper or hydrant height with the fuse end up, at the curbfront end of the DA's parking space and painting it like a fire hydrant.

So when you do drive through, drive slow, polite and smile at EVERYONE you see:eek: :D

It would make me feel safer if my town had those stats! The thing the anti-gunners don't understand is that those folks like Rusty that have undergone extensive background checks at local, state, and federal level, and are now carrying guns may save their lives someday in a holdup or hostage situation. OR might just be driving by when you are getting beat to SH*T or raped, and do something about it!

The wait for the permit itself was nerve wracking, but the wait for the legislation to take hold was three years of countering the inane BS put out by those who wish for Utopia, and refuse to believe we aren't in it now. One elected official, an MD, caterwauled over the gunshot victims who sufered while he tended them, and predicted the usual OK Corral mentality. Truth was (and was published) that he had NEVER treated a gunshot wound. We also reminded the press that the good guys won the OK Corral thing. Well, as good as there was in Tombstone at that time :D

D@nm straight Maui, and well said! As much grief as I give Rusty (cover your eyes Rusty and don't peek until the next few sentences are over ;))...well I couldn't think of a sharper mind I rather have on my side if caught in a real life stress situation. Hopefully one day, on the way back up to the Northwest, the opportunity to personally meet Yose.. errr -Rusty, will happen :)

I like you too, Pax.

I have never bothered with details like permits.

Same here, Uncle. Some of the places I went to in my younger days required a weapon of some sort, usually a J frame 38. Gave all that nonsense up years ago but still go armed at all times. You never know who's around the corner.

Semp,
You sound like my brother, grad, "HONOR MAN" at PI!(little after your stint)!
Pax, Rus, maybe we will meet!! Rus,I like you too Pax!! OH BARF!:barf:

Jim
They wash our brains at PI, ya know. And it lasts a lifetime.
Actually, some of us got dry cleaned too. :D

PAX, for whatever it's worth Yangdu loved both song and cartoon -- so much so that she said there was a vacancy on the Nepali shipping staff just in case you decide to leave the neon Charpi.

About carry -- I like the notion of gun control -- don't let criminals, crazies or druggies buy and carry. If you're on the up & up what harm is done if you have an antique .38 in your glove compartment as a carjacking deterrent, or stuck in your belt if you're walking through that part of town populated by criminals, crazies and druggies. To me is seems very simple.

While I appreciate the nice comments, I have to be truthful and add that my poor typing speed usually gives me enough time during a post to come to my senses before hitting the send button. Having second thoughts during the editing process or after posting and making quick revisions when I see what I said gives me a far more reasonable reputation than I deserve.

You might also recall Mark Twain's comment on off-the-cuff remarks: " A good extemporaneous speech usually takes about two weeks to write."

Why, Rusty, you're the most reasonable man in Nevada. Or at least in Hawthorn. Well, maybe your block. At least in your house. Well, maybe.
