It's the black-coated version with Kydex sheath.

I am impressed so far. It certainly seems to be a great knife for the money. It's more substantial than I expected; the blade spine is a hair under 3/16" thick (.18" actual) and the tang feels pleasantly heavy beneath the hard rubber grip.

I feel inspired to buy the S1 or NL4....:p

Take it easy,
Bob

excellent choice, I have heard good things about it! I can highly reccomend the A1. I have two of their knives and they are both excellent knives and extremely good value. The VG10 steel is very impressive too.

One thing I forgot to add....

The Fallkniven web site shows the F1 blade as being VG10 steel at 59HRC. My blade is marked "LAM. VG10" and the box advertises the laminated steel. I thought -and Fallkniven's web site shows- the Northern Lights series had the laminated VG10/420J2 blades while the F1, S1, A1, etc. had blades of just VG10. Guess not....

Take it easy,
Bob

i have had my A1 for a while now and it is just solid VG10 but I believe in the last few months they have started laminating most of the knives they produce including the A1 and probably the F1 too.

I havent used a laminated knife so I dont know how much better/ worse they are. I guess they must be a fair bit better because they are no doubt more expensive to manufacture

I got my first F1 when they were still using ATS-34 and also have the VG-10 version. The F1 is an excellent knife - plenty strong and cuts very well. I have the laminated A2 and I suspect the laminated steel will work just fine for any application you could come up with for the F1. :D
