The BBT delivered my Doug Ritter RKS Mk1 today. This is basically a re-bladed Benchmade Griptilian. It has a Doug Ritter designed CPM S30V blade at about 3 1/2 inches and is stonewashed. It has the Axis lock as well. It is very light and I played around with it by flicking it open and closed with the Axis lock (I couldn't do this very well with my Mini-Rukus). Very smooth opening and closing. It is very easy to open using the thumbstud as well. When I get a chance to really use instead of opening and closing it I'll post my observations. One thing I was a little disappointed with though is that this came in the Black Benchmade box. I guess it's not up to the quality of the Blue Class of knives but I will see.

Congradulations

I have been looking at these myself and am anxious to hear what you think of them.

I thought black was "tactical" and red was the "entry level"

Yeah, the difference is that black is knives that are blue-class quality, but intended for use by law enforcement, military, and other tactical people. They're just as good as the blue class, but for a different purpose.

I agree with the_mac & LongDistance. The black class is at the same level of quality as the blue class. The Ritter is a great knife and I personally never had any issues with the S30V steel on it. I really like the knife a lot, but it wasn't finding it's way into my rotation, so I traded it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with it.

Don't worry about the box. It is a great knife, I have the regular size Ritter Grip folder, the mini Ritter Grip folder, and the Ritter Grip fixed blade. Hell, throw the box away, because you won't be selling or trading it.

Thanks for your compliments.

One thing I was a little disappointed with though is that this came in the Black Benchmade box. I guess it's not up to the quality of the Blue Class of knives but I will see.

I think you may be a bit misinformed. There is NO difference in quality between a blue or black box product. It is simply marketing. The black box knives are designated for the "tactical" market. Benchmade also use the black boxes for most limited edition or special projects, of which the RSK is one. Regardless of the box color, it is the same knife to the same high standards. Hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

You can't go wrong with a Ritter Grip.I've got a mini in M2 and love it.:D

I had a small RSK Mini, in yellow; in S30V. I also had one in M2. GREAT knives!!! Wicked sharp.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I was looking at the "heirarchy" of their different classes. Don't get me wrong, it is a great knife and I expect that it will perform quite well. All of my other BM's are of the Blue class. Looking forward to putting it to use.

blue class quality = black class quality
there's really no difference.
you could essentially put all the black in the blue class
and vice versa.
BM just uses it for marketing purposes.

A few bits about the Rittergrip folders - if it helps:

>Clip screws: T6 Torx head
>Pivot screw: T10 Torx head
>Blade grind: 30 degree angle edge
(15 on each side - try to preserve the grind angle!)
>Sheath originally sold for fullsize Rittergrip folder: Bianchi Accumold 7303 Single Mag/Knife Pouch w/ snap closure, size #2, (or sized for Browning Hi-Power mag)

If you enjoy the folders, check out the fixed Rittergrip. It is several notches above them!

i second the notion for the fixed griptilian. if you like how your folder feels you should take off the pocket clip and see how nice it sits in your hand. then imagine some more steel on the blade and you have the fixed version.

I also have the Rittergrip, good blade, wide with a thin edge, excellent cutter. Gary

Congrats on a fine knife. I still consider it overall one of the best values in a pocket knife today.
