I picked up my new SH-E at the post office today.

The good news.....Workmanship is excellent. I really like the textured finish. It's not as rough as it looks in some of the photos. The sheath is also good and the pocket should be handy.

The bad news..... I don't care much for the handle. This is a personal thing. I have rather small hands and it feels kind of boxy to me. I could modify it, but why screw it up? I just like the old style handle better. Sorry.

I may be putting this one up for sale. Anyone interested?

As I told Andy, this is no reflection on him or Busse Knives. It is just a matter of personal taste and it's my problem.

UffDa, I got my E-BM last Monday and I found the handle "boxy" as well.
When I buy a knife, and especially one that costs as much as the BM, I buy them to keep and use. Very few knives I have are kept as collectables.
(Actually I believe the E-BM is a bargain at the price.)

So, with that thought in mind I took a coarse wood rasp and rounded the corners off the micarta, being very careful not to scratch the coating underneath. The "boxy" feel disapeared and resulted in a very comfortable handle for me.
The finish the coarse rasp left is not bad to look at and the micarta retained it's non-glare properties.

Did I make the knife lose value?
Perhaps to some, but not to anyone who wants a real user instead of an orginal to look at.
This has to be one of the finest knives I have seen ever.
The beauty of it is in how it works and it works very well indeed!!
YMMV.

I have a straight-handled SH, and I too found the urge to modify the handle a bit. I took it into my workshop and ground down the edges, and then I entirely removed the rear/top corners of the micarta slabs on my benchgrinder. The handle now has a much rounder profile that fits the palm and heel of my hand much more naturally that before.

Again, it's a case of personal preference, but those of us who rely on our Busses as hard users don't care what the value might be to anyone other than ourselves. Therefore, I wouldn't give up on it yet - instead, I'd suggest you try profiling and shaping the handle a bit. Just be careful not to grind anything but the micarta!
