Today, I finially received my Starmate. This is a really great knife. It came extremely sharp, much sharper than my Military, and would shave hair very easily. Some people complain that the flat, straight handle dosn't fit their hand but it seems ok to me. Overall the knife is nice and lightweight and can be opened quickly. The lockup is rock solid, and the liner makes flush contact to the left side of the blade, and passes the spine whack test no problem. The only problem I've found is that the grind on one side is not as "clean" and precise as the other side...the grind looks a little uneven and sloppy. Should I send this back? Is everyone else's grinds perfect? Actually, as I look a little closer, the grinds are way off. One goes from about midway of the blade to the tip. On the other side, the grind stops before getting to the tip. I really don't think this is acceptable of a $100 knife. What should I do?

If I were you, I´d send it back. Otherwise it may be a thorn in your side for a long time. I know, my Chinook features the same flaw and I just can´t get it out of my mind :( The thing that p..... me off the most, is that the tip is not straight.

However, I will not send it back, the shipping cost is too high for me, cause I live in Sweden.

I agree that you ought to send it back to your vendor, ASAP. Demand another, and "request" that the replacement box be opened, and the knife inspected for similar such problems. The vendor can send the knife back thru the system and get a replacement or reimbursement.

Send it back tomorrow! I don't think that you'll be happy 'till you do that. (It's better than having that knife hidden-away in your "knife/sock-drawer" forever, or being reduced to "beater-statis".).

I emailed my dealer to day...havn't heard back from them yet. I'll try to send it back to them first, if that fails then I'll just send it to Spyderco.

I finially heard back from my dealer, and in addition to being rude, they wanted me to pay them to exchange it. There is no way in hell that I'm going to do that. Even after I specifically asked them to look over the knife, I still got a bad one. I guess I'll be sending it to Spyderco tomorrow. The dealer I'm refering to is: www.worldwideknives.com - do not buy anything from these people!

Thanks for the heads up, EZ. That sucks. Am really sorry to hear about that vendor. Occasionally I spend some time admiring their European knives. Every once in awhile, get close to ordering something. Guess not now.
