Received my Startac...with a suprise

Was worried that I might be underwhelmed with my first CRK purchase due to purchase price but could not have been more wrong. Absolutely love this thing. Now I want a Starbenza...and a bunch of other stuff.
Even got a suprise when I upacked it. Received one with the "old pivot" design, born on date of 9-25-12. Thought for sure I would be getting the "new pivot".

Actually, this is probably a question that has been discussed a billion times but do you have to be a paying member to post pictures?
 
Interesting. I ordered one last week and it should be here on Tuesday. I wonder if I'll get the new or old style pivot. I am actually kinda hoping for the new style since I won't need the kit to take the knife apart. Anyone know the date the change was made? I thought for sure it was before 9-25-12.
 
I was looking forward to the new pivot as well for the ease of maintenance.....but once I actually had it in my hand, my opinion changed. Just gives it a bit of extra cool factor (as cheezy as that sounds).

Perhaps you need a paying membership to load pictures here but I prefer to host them with another site, I use picasa web albums from google, some use flickr or photobucket, and if you host them elsewhere for sure you can put them here in your post. As a paying member I can't recall if you need a membership here to be able to attach images. You could try clicking the tree picture in the reply window, then "from computer" and see if it's possible. Also, there is a sub-forum here that helps with all kinds of questions like this.

I'm anxious to see what I get. It's a bit strange that there are born on dates before yours with the new style pivot.

Just got my Startac today. Born on 9-25-2012 with the old style pivot and LBS. Love this knife!!

I honestly don't mind it much. I was looking forward to the new pivot just because I didn't want to have special tools to take it apart. At the same time I kinda like the old style more because it looks beefier (although they are both probably the same in regards to strength). Also, it appears that people generally like the old style more so if I ever decide to sell it that might help.

It's been a few days since I got my Umnumzaan and I now have a couple questions. Mine seems really stiff out of the box. My thumb is sore from trying to break it in. I was just wondering if this is typical and if it will get smoother over time. Also, the lockup is smooth but when I snap the knife open (not wrist flick), the lock sticks a little bit. I thought with the ceramic ball this wouldn't happen. Has anyone else had a sticky lock on their Umnumzaan and does it go away? Otherwise I love the knife and can't wait for the break in periods to be done.
