Those knives ,BEETLE & MANTIS are amazing. . I like the 2 FOLDERS folders, particularly the MANTIS. The tanto looking one. So sharp and so strong.
AS STRONG AS STRAIGHT KNIVES .But it is expensive with excellent quailty .

Congrats, Hardmetal! very nice! and… you must be a wealthy man… or have been ;)) those babies are quite expensive

Please post yr impressions later - not much inffo on Rocksteads available.

THX .First of all, i am not a rich person , but i am a metal lover .
When i was a 12 boy ,I use a a small paper cutter to made a small sword ,as its blade .The handle is made of can foil from a can .in order to fusing or joining them together ,use low melting point electronic tin/lead alloy wire ....
certainly , at that time ,i only know the blade is hard but very brittle as poor carbon steel .
now, I like to collect those knives , the first priority is the metal/steel material.
As the steel of rockstead is special z189 & with outer ats-34 layer steel.
it is so special that I bought them.

I have seen these at blade for the last three years. They are amazing. Very sharp. Wish I could afford one.

To demo the coating he bangs the knife into a piece of bamboo. He has used the same knife every year. He also said he has never sharpened the knife.

THE HRC IS 67 of the knife blade is similar to that of hss t1(18% w) ,higher than hss m2 or tool steel d2 .it is so hard that the retention of edge is high .

What is the purpose of that hole in the beetle?

Thanks

I am guessing it is for locating the blade while manufacturing. I read somewhere that they developed ther own proprietery CNC grinding machines to grind the blades. I saw one with a convex grind which was pretty impressive.

A full convex would be optimal, but their current half convex/half flat may be tough enough for high Rc folder work.
I think that hybrid grind is specialized for shearing cuts that push the material to one side of the cut-might have seen it on some speciality chisel or shears.

Thanks
D

One reason the reccomend that particular method is that the sharpener is over 200 but the ones I have handled are great knives.

Wow!! Thank you!! Are you happy with them? I forgot to tell you congrats on your new sharp and pointies.

I am sure they are well made and the materials used are top of the line, but those prices are more than I would pay for those knives.
