I know we have a section for test and review but this is really just a guys impression after some steady use. My brother inlaw and I went camping earlier this week getting ready for the cooler weather to come and enjoy some outdoors. I recently picked up a Benchmade 484 here on the forum and have been eager to try some M390, my brother inlaw has a Benchmade mini-grip with 154CM, both knives are sharpened by me on my Wicked Edge and ready for use. The plan was to do all food prep, camp chores with these two knives as long as possible, but we did have other fixed blades if need be. We made 1 fishing pole a six foot small sapling, cut and cleaned, next I cleaned 1 snake for a midnight snack which included cutting through the spine 12-15 times making small steaks to make shish-kabobs, 2 small sticks for skewers, lots of various cord to secure the tents, and finally 2 hours straight of whittling on scrap wood by moonlight just to relax.
The next day I checked both knives side by side and both where noticeably less sharp but still sharp enough for basic cutting use but not capable of skinning or cleaning, also surprisingly the 154cm held up very well and only seemed a little more dull than my M390, now I also did all the spine cuts with mine and whittled quite consistently to see the ability of the M390. Another good point is that both blades seemed to wear quite evenly end to end, no dents or chips obviously ( thats why we buy BENCHMADE) and I was able to quickly touch up both blades, thats a super important fact for guys who do their own sharpening, 154CM has always been a solid performer, but the M390 easily returns to a laser sharp edge with about the same effort, I have a 940-1 with S90V and is much more work to get that same edge. I know this was far from scientific but I think its good example of what the knives are capable of and an example of really using your knives. M390 ROCKS, and 154CM too.
Someone else, its your turn!
Thanks Chris

Hi. I have a mini griptillian 556 with 154CM blade too. Had it for probably 5+ years. My blade was as sharp as I expected out of the box and will not stay super sharp whatever sharpening method I used. In fact I think the edge is brittle. I can feel the edge is toothy after sharpening. I had to use very light pressure when sharpening it to reduce the toothiness. And after a few cutting or slicing, the edge will loose its sharp feeling (tested with finger on edge). I did asked Benchmade via e-mail about this but never got a reply.
However, the mini grip is my daily use knife. Mosty because it is very convenient to carry, easy to deploy, the right size too and quite comfortable to use. It is not super sharp but it will still cut through almost anything I put to it. But I am practising carry my Mora Companion with me lately :-).

Other than the edge problem, I think it is an excellent little knife.
