Hi gentlemen! This is my first post in the Kershaw/ZT forum. I am a recent convert to the folding knife for EDC carry. I have been hopelessly addicted to fixed blades since I was in the scouts about 15 years ago, but after hearing some praises regarding ZT knives...I had to get one; two actually. I picked up a ZT 0550 and a 0300, and I love them both! Excellent knives of excellent quality based on my very limited knowledge of folders. They lock up like bank vaults, there is ZERO blade play on both knives, and both are centered perfectly. I don't use them half as hard as I should, but I want to keep them clean and well oiled. A quick question for you folder veterans: would I be better to use some gun grease to lube the bearings/moving parts, or should I go with a lubricant (like Militec-1)? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll get some pictures as soon as it stops raining here in PA :grumpy:

I think your best bet is a thin lubricant. I don't think grease would do so well.

Hey Thrill, good to see you here too ;) Yea, so you think that Militec would be a better bet? I know that CRK recommends purchasing their own brand of folder lube, but I didn't know if that was necessary...

I'm a recent convert from fixed as well, picked me up at 0350 in a trade, was wondering the same question. I dont have firearms or anything so I dont have any gun lube, would that work?

I think the closest thing i have is 3 in 1 oil lol

I am reluctant to use greese or a large amount of wet lubricant because it will tend to collect dirt and debris.

When I clean and re lube my knives I wipe it all down with rubbing alcohol or just a paper towel, then use Rem Oil with teflon (gun oil) and then spear and rub silicone grease or white grease or similar between my fingers with the washers, then spray another coat of oil. I spray both sides of the blade near the pivot and let it dry or shake off the wet oil and re-assemble. I'm ocd so I like to wipe it all down with rubbing alcohol again after re-assembled, all the parts that are exposed. In between cleanings I fold a paper towel and wipe down the inside of the frame and blade as necessary. I always check the lock face and frame face to make sure they are free of oil or other dirt too.
