Recent experiences with the Grayman Dua? First $200+ knife purchase help

Hey guys,

So I've finally mustered not only the capital, but the fortitude and disregard for common sense that comes with buying your first really expensive (by most standards, but probably not ours :p) knife. If I didn't live in such a weird state, the world would be my oyster; in fact, I think this decision would be easier. But because I am limited to 3" (or close to that) knives, there's far less options, and even less input about some of them.

The Grayman Dua is one of these knives I am talking about. It fits my budget and size requirements, but I've been unable to find any recent information on them that is of any depth. There's a few conflicting reports on youtube about them, but none of those knives were from the most recent "batch" released. So I ask, has anyone had any experience with one lately? I'm worried that it's probably better to just wait for a small Sebenza or buy a few cheaper Spyderco's instead of investing that money in what may be a potentially risky venture.

Thanks for your input guys! Any recommendations are much appreciated :)

I have one that is about four months old. It's a fantastic hard use folder. I had the saw tooth edge but put a smooth edge on it and it's holding it very well. If you want a hard use knife this is a great knife.

I have one, and love it.
I'm hardly a "hard user", but it is a fantastic knife for the money.
.....now I want the orange one.

have you checked out the three sisters forge beast?

I have, but the beast is slightly over budget (trying to keep it under $300), but all of these good reports about the Dua is pretty much making it impossible not to get one.

love my dua and i own the beast as well... to be honest besides the cool water jetting, hands down the dua is better built imo.

I got a Dua last christmas. It is one of my favortie folders and I own alot of knives. Its a steal at the price you pay. Pull the trigger and experience it for yourself.

while i dont have the dua, i do have the satu. if its built as good as the satu, and i have zero reason to think otherwise, you will have no choice but to love it.

I wish I could join the lovefest.

This is a mom and pop operation that works hard, prices products fairly and has an excellent warranty.

I loved the looks of the Dua when I opened the package and wanted to love it. Unfortunately, mine came with a lockbar that wasn't quite right. I could actually make it rattle. I returned it and got a refund, no questions asked. I hoped this was a one-time issue and tried again when a Dua came up for sale on the fourm. When I asked the seller to make sure it didn't have the same problem, he inspected it and replied that it apparently did. As I recall, he then took it off the market.

I'm really not trying to dis these folks and hesitated to post this because of the possible effect even one non-positive comment can have on a small company. On the other hand, I want to be honest with my fellow BFers -- and with the manufacturer, to encourage him to make any fixes necessary. Like I said, these are really decent folks.

So, by all means, give it a try. I plan to do the same one day. You might want to go for the cheaper, non-coated version. I am sensitive to odors and the slightly more expensive black-coated model I tried had a smell that gave me a headache.

If you get one, please let us know if it as good as we all hope.

I am horribly impulsive and went with the HEST 2.0 instead, mostly because I've wanted it forever and instead of spending $265 on the Dua, I spent $150 on the HEST and now have that $120 to spend on something slimmer and more slicey from Spyderco. My serious knife collecting days are still far ahead of me, so I don't doubt I will end up with a Dua, but for now I want the opportunity to explore more brands and expand my collection.

I have 2 Dua's; one bead blast & the other DLC. I LOVE them. I want to get one of the orange G-10 ones.

Are you sure it was the lock bar rattling? The blade rides on a bushing around the pivot which could possibly rattle. If that's the case a bit of grease would solve the rattle. I had a different warranty issue with my first Dua but Sue and Mike took care of me no questions asked. Well one question, they asked if I wanted a refund or a new knife.

OP, congrats on the HEST/F. It is a solid knife as well.

I wish I could join the lovefest.
