First my Byrd Meadlowlark , which by the way for some dumb reason I got it stuck in my head that it was named Cara Cara and mentioned so in a few posts , sorry for my dumbness.
I thought that the SS handle on this made a cool canvas for some embellishment so away I went !
I used a marker to "mask" off the area I wanted to work on and used a Dremel ( small grinding tip) to roughen up the surface , going over it a few times until I reached the desired look and feel , then carefully and heavily buffed and polished the area to clean it up , then used round file to close off the space. This does help in giving the slippery handle some 'grip' and adds a lot of character to a rather bland surface.
Then I thought about modding the blade , but howso ? I saw a mod on USN and got an idea , so came up with this , a 'wave' of sorts and left the 'nose' , it sort of reminds me of a rhinoceros beetle head
I thought about flattening the 'nose' part but I like the way it looks , gives it a more exotic flair and certainly an original touch. I also shaped the clip to my liking but my camera was out of juice so no pic.
Also, my Native and S-2
Polished the clip and clip bolt on the Native and it looks MUCH nicer now overall. Left the Spyder logo black and it shows up real well , very classy looking IMO.
The S-2 , I tried to anodize......... sigh. the clip came out nice and purple but after trying 48 volts and no color on the handles I gave up , after drying off I noticed it darkened the handles to a deeper , darker and glossier grey , using some Flitz to polish those and the blade , the S-2 is much nicer looking now , also polished the screws and pin, I tell ya that knife is an absolute tank , it sounds like a vault door when that lock engages , I love that knife and think it was my one of my best purchases this year. You have to handle an S-2 to appreciate it.
