Hi all,

We regret to inform you that the recent Mule Team 12 for Cruwear was not heat treated properly and the performance of the steel cannot be reached as is. We have stopped shipping the piece and we are recalling all those sent out for re-heat treating. Sorry about that.

Hi Sal,

Thanks for taking prompt action on this. How does this work for those of us who are overseas and have fitted scales (incl. epoxy!)

Best wishes and keep the Mules coming.

Hi Dave,

Actually we didn't know about the error until some posters let us know there was a problem. Our bad.:o

Mistakes happen. It takes balls to admit it and recall the product and rectify the problem. Thats why spyderco kicks ass!

Fixed your post to provide a more accurate, mature, and respectfuL view on this thread.

Crap. I was hoping mine was just a fluke. I guess I'll unwrap both of mine and send them in.

Hi Jack,

Thanx much for your kind understanding and cooperation. Also thanx for your early detection.

Naturally it's all Joe's fault.;)

These things happen, but at least with Spyderco they happen seldom and get fixed when they do. I really thought it was my sharpening at first because I used to sell Gerbers back in the day. I wasn't really into steels then, but I knew whatever they were using was really good stuff. We can still blame it on Joe, though.

Somebody should tell him. If he does sell that without a retreat, then he will get back feedback from the buyer.

The rule says you're not supposed to crap in other people's sales threads, but I wonder if somebody shouldn't break the news to this fellow:

I just saw that, and came straight to this thread as I thought I had read about a recall. I thought about sending him a PM with a link to this thread, but didn't really know if I should or not. I don't know the problem's had from the heat treat, but it may be something a potential buyer would want to know about.

edit-nevermind, I see that an email has been sent.

It's always good form to notify someone offline, especially when you can send official word with a link to a thread like this.

So exactly what IS the problem? My Cruwear is good as gold.I sharpened it up and started on whittling a toothpick with this yellow pine 2x4.It still shaves after without a single line or mark on the blade.I did notice it didnt get real sharp until i polished it (the edge)on a hard buffing wheel.

Maybe you got a good one. The first one I tried sharpened very easily, but the edge rolled stripping the bark off an ash tree limb even at 45° included angle with a 50° microbevel. The second one was much better, but still showed some rolling with a 40° microbevel after a little whittling on that ash. I know it's hardwood, but it isn't that hard. The timestamp on this thread makes me think Sal's testing showed something seriously wrong with the pieces still on hand.

Yea,mines seems fine.Extremely hard in fact.I wont send it back unless Sal or crew wants to examine it or something.Hopefully, ill get to cut up a few deer with it this season.Im completely satisfied and confident in the knife.

Hi guys.

There are no good ones. They might get sharp, but they won't stay sharp for very long. Please send them back to us.
