I have a question for any one that might know, what are these current knife laws in NY State?? I can't seem to find them anywhere? I know a few dealers have been hit with lawsuits in NYC but what other new laws have there been? I live in NY State and have yet to see anything else that is "new or current or recent". I am just wondering what everyone means by "recent knife laws".
Thanks

I believe the Manhattan DA's office has gotten some decision from New York City Court judges ruling that any knife where you can hold the blade and flick the handle to the open position, no matter how hard to you have to flick it or how many times you have to do so, is a "gravity knife" and therefore prohibited by the State Penal Law. Lots of knife dealers were afraid for awhile to sell any folding knife to anyone in New York, although I think that went away.

The few knife shops in the city are also being sued civily, I assume by the City Corporation Counsel, for having knives like this in "violation of the law."

Of course we saw in the recent London riots how well disarmament works, frightened tax payers hide in their house or arm themselves with cricket bats and hatchets and risk imprisonment if they defend themselves or their family from the human hyenas. :/

Ny law are all old...NYC Admin code passed under Mayor Kock, and NYS laws are from 1956, what has happened is the NYPD has gone hog wild making arrests for knife violations. The Manhattan DA came into office two years ago and noticed about 3,000 knife arrest each year in his boro and decided to find out where all these "illegal" knives came from, and to his surprise they were offered for sale in many stores openly for sale. He went after them and so in lies the story....Of course us knife guys are all crying foul now finally and a bit late I might add as the NYS Courts have allowed flickable knives to be called gravity knives for almost five decades, but no one cared. If you look at my early posts from years back, I always asked for involvement of the makers/retailers but there was no response. Now that this one DA has done after the sellers, there is finally a well run response to this injustice. I hope the law suit wins, but it will be hard fight as many people have been charged for 50+ years with this wrong understanding of what is a gravity knife, and the courts have allowed this to stand time and time again. It is only now that retailors and too many other wise law abiding people have been arrested that a fight has begun.....Sad to say it took this long and this much to wake up everyone, and remember this is STATE law so anyhere in NYS you could be so charged
