Well, not many months ago I was here asking questions on a grinder, and the Grizzly 2x42. Forward a short time, I have the Reeder 2x72, evenheat oven, and handfuls of other misc. tooling, LOL. Here are a few pictures of the first products. Wanted to say thanks for the input I got here, and the continued info by just checking in now and then. Right now just making blades for skill development.

As my contribution here though. I have a small CNC. Just a router based unit, but I use it as much as the grinder. I use it to make plastic templates of blades, but biggest use is handles. I am impatient by nature, but love just using that tool for all the handle work, or at least most of it.

Have only used 2 types of steel to date, Nitro V and Magnacut. maybe 50/50 split in the group photo.

Blades look very nice, for “skill development”. I’m at that stage also, but I’ve decided on 14C28N as my basic steel for now. Family members and friends have been getting free kitchen and hunting knives, while I’m perfecting my skill, so I guess I’m cheap, no MAGNACUT for you ;). I wish I went with the Reeder a few months ago instead of the Grizzly. I’m returning my third warranty replaced Grizzly grinder for a full refund. Now I’m looking for a 2x72.
Keep developing your skills, I look forward to seeing more of your work

I also have a router CNC but have never used it for knife making. Would you mind sharing more about how you use it for handles, and perhaps even share a file that I could look at to get a better idea of how you're using it?

I get some pictures of the scales and the process. I mainly use whats described in the post on page three now, the "mortised tang". All are 3 pieces. I have the "liner", then the 2 handle scales. I test fiit, then have a 2 process glue up. First glue the handle together, then glue in the blade. I pin some, but most not,,,,,thats why I have a bunch in family and friends hands, looking for some durability testing, etc. I'm using west systems epoxy, long cure time, but have a lot of confidence in it.

CNC works even better for a full tang, just cut the scales. Pin holes can be trickier, but just need to follow a good pattern.

I'll add I do all my drafting in Fusion 360, its a fee hobby license. But there is a learning curve. In my day job I use modeling software daily, so easy transition.

Thanks; I was wondering how you did the WA handles with a CNC. I also 'use' Fusion360, but since I only use it a couple of times a year, I'm pretty bad at it. If you don't mind sharing a Fusion360 project file I'd like to take a look at it.

Ricky. Search Fusion 360 knife handle on YouTube. That’s going to be your best reference.

For the WA. Need to still upload a photo
