Here's a photo of some of my recent purchases. The Vic Spartan isn't new but I stuck it in there for size reference.

  • Victorinox Spartan
  • Trevor Ablett Clip Point
  • Joker Clasp Knife
  • Queen Birdseye Maple Canoe
  • Small Douk Douk

The Ablett is a nice knife but I'm having a heck of a time getting the edge how I want it. I'm not sure what kind steel it is but I had an easier time with my D2 Queen knives and I consider those pretty difficult to sharpen. Once I get it just right it should only require light touch ups. The spring is nice and strong and the handle is very comfortable. I am starting to appreciate the slight forward cant of the blade.

I haven't come so far as trying to sharpen mine yet.
That's good to know.
What angles are you going for?

/ Karl

I'm going for the standard Sharpmaker angles, 30 back bevel and a 40 final edge. I've got diamond rods which help quite a bit on the reprofiling.

I got a Trevor Ablett as well. Tried it on my sharpmaker and even took it to my Japanese waterstones that I use for work. No luck getting it how I wanted.

Hmmmmm, 40 final edge is what I normally go for too as my standard.
I'll have to see how it'll work for me once I get around to do some sharpening.

The steel feels a lot like D2. I got my edge sharp enough to shave and slice paper but it isn't a smooth fine edge. It'll sometimes snag on paper. I suspect edge retention will be pretty good though. A few more passes on the white stones should do it.

Love that Queen Canoe. Been eying one in 1095 for some time. My knife $$$ is gone for a while. I already purchased my Christmas presents:D

Nice buys:thumbup:

Very good. I've been to that site, I was hoping the knives could be obtained from somewhere in the US.

Thanks!

Andy

Shipping is actually pretty inexpensive and fast with Littlemesters. I got my knife in about 10 days and they charged me about $9 USD for shipping.

Not living in the US, but also not in the UK.
I have excellent experience with Littlemesters too. Fast and reasonable prices.
