Recentering a RAM blade?

I've been touching up my RAM since I've got it and it's almost perfect. but the blade is a little off centered. Normally I wouldn't care on a beater EDC like this, but my love for the RAM is overpowering.

Anyway, has anyone had success recentering the blade on this model?

Yeah, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. I've tried adjusting all the handle screws, but I can't get the one in the middle because it requires a ridiculously small torx bit I can't seem to find anywhere. It might be the culprit

I would but I just don't have the torx bits to play with it. I'll try to get out to a hardware store today and find some. Went to walmart last night, got the absolute smallest I could find, and they were still too big. I need like a electron scanning microscope.

I'm not sure what tiny torx you are talking about. I recently took my buddies RAM apart and I think there were only 2 size. All handle screws were the same I believe. I could be wrong.

I have a cheap Ace mini-torx set that had it covered.

well, there's two different screw sizes. There's one for the pivot and the bottom spacer, and then all the other ones are microscopic, including the one for the middle spacer. I'm thinking that if I can loosen them all up, I can try realigning the handle and hoping for the best.

I might just have to keep buying RAMs until I get a good one.

I've never tried it on this particular model, but, what I would try would be the following. Slightly loosen the pivot, open the blade, apply pressure on the flat of the blade and push TOWARDS the side it is closer to when closed. Once centered, tighten up the pivot, which should not take much unless you loosened a lot at the beginning of the process. This is something I do a lot and it has proven to work more often than not. Good luck!:D:thumbup:;)

the "microscopic" torx bit is a T-6, but the spacers are fit into the handle so you aren't going to get much play out of them, on my RAM the only thing that affects the blade centering is the pivot, and it affects it a considerable amount compared to most of my other knives, good luck getting it centered

I normally have good luck with this technique, but even though the pivot doesn't loosen after opening and closing the blade, it returns to the original position after every opening. Like, when I let go of the blade it's fine until the first opening, but then, it's another half mm off.

I guess I'll drop by another hardware store and try to completely rebuild the knife and see if that does the trick.

Order a set from Wiha online at Sears. All you need is T-6 and T-8. Snug up all of the body screws nice and firm and then adjust pivot. Voila, done.

Are you close to a Home Depot, or Lowes? In the tool section they have a Torx kit that stores the bits in the handle. It costs around $7 or so. The bits are not all that hard and I have twisted some of the smaller ones, but as long as you don't go all OCD on tightening ( like I do ) they will be okay!:D
