I've decided I want to add a few Barlows to my collection and went on the hunt to see what I could come up with. I won this Boker off "the auction site" and was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box! The F&F is perfect, blades are centered, walk and talk is perfect. Knife appears unused and has only a little patina on the bolsters. After touching up the edge so it would shave, immediately to the pocket it went!

I'd like a little help on dating it, and since there is great knowledge on this forum I figured I'd ask the experts.

Here's some info which may help:
Blades are carbon steel (I touched a spot of cold blue to them and it took immediately).
Three Brass liners
Box marked 493 JRB (jigged red bone)
Tang is stamped "Boker Solingen Germany"

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.
Chris

Very nice Böker Barlow; you've touched on the important features (modern, made in Solingen Germany of carbon steel, jigged red handles, brass liners, etc.) Here is mine, same knife but with Grand Canyon bone handles; very nice snap on this one - carrying mine today - enjoy! OH

Thanks for the kind words!

Can anyone help me out as to an approximate age, I'm thinking maybe from the 70s?

I have no idea the date, but your description of the quality matches every Boker I own. Nice find.

Tree bolster and pin pattern indicates at least post 1953 and pre 1976 for regular production. They also went to mostly Delrin in the late 60s, so if I had to guess, I would say it's an early to mid 60s knife. But that's a guess at best, and bars the possibility of re-releases.

Nice find.

The bolster tree stamp on your knife looks identical to mine, the jigging in your knife looks like some of that of the mid 2000's to mid 2010's. I bought mine at a gunshow 5 to 7 years ago; don't know how long the dealer had it prior to my purchase. OH

I am going to take a guess of around 2007 on the red bone you have. They made a run of those around that time period. Here are the only two Boker Barlows I own, quite a bit older and maybe you can see the differences in construction - sorry - I do not have any blades open pictures of these two yet, but, both have full blades. The spearpoint on the bottom was carried many a day by someone.:)
