Greetings all,

Until recently I was strictly a gun guy (as if you couldn't tell by my handle). More precisely, I am a Heckler & Koch fanatic. My significant other somewhat indulged me in my passion with all things HK for X-mas last year. She got me the Boker/HK folder with the handle made from the same polymer as the USP's frame. This has now sparked an interest in knives, and as soon as it's financially possible, I'd like to start building a modest collection. My only real question at this point, however, is: Is the Boker HK knife a POS, or something worth hanging on to? I've been carrying it religiously, and I feel more comfortable with it every day. Whenever my hands have a free moment I always end up pulling it out and flicking it open and shut a few trillion times. I think I'm hooked...

Welcome USP45ACP,

You'll find knives are a fine addition to a good handgun. I don't know about the Boker but Benchmade made an exclusive model of their BM970 for HK a few years ago. It is a very good knife. It is dicontinued now but you still see them for sale now and then. Post under the knives wanted to buy section and hopefully someone can point you in the right direction.

I don't know the one you mention specifically, but Boker are generally pretty good in my experience.

45: if you like it, it's a good knife.

I don't know if its good but it probably isn't too bad. However Bokers quality isn't in the level of Benchmades and Spydercos.

I have (some time now) wondered what kind of idea is to use guns barrel steel for blades. This steels name is x-15 and it is supposed to be more rust resistant than e.g. ats-34 at HRC 58 hardness. What is its composition?

Hey .45! Welcome. I too was strictly into firearms a while back, and now am a dedicated blade fanatic! The Benchmade spoken of above is the Benchmade version of the Ernest Emerson CQC7. It will have the HK logo on a Black-T coated blade. There is one for sale at my gun shop/indoor range, although their prices on knives are a bit high. If you'd like, I can go check it out and let you know, but I can assure you that it's over $100.00, and you can probably do better by posting here on the "knives wanted" forum. The CQC7 is a nice knife; ats-34, G10 with titanium liners. You can do a "search" for CQC7 here on the forum and you'll probably find a ton of info. A word of caution: if you thought firearms was an addicting hobby, you ain't seen nothing yet!
E-mail me if I can help,
Paul

anyway welcome to the club....

Mickey77, that's what I thought when I started collecting, but now my most expensive knife cost more than my most expensive gun!!! It's a whole lot prettier, though!

If H&K put their name on it, you can bet that it's good knife. Boker isn't know for junk either.

You'll also want to keep an eye out for one of the H&K USP Benchmade 970 knives that Benchmade did for H&K a few years ago. H&K was selling the knife and the gun together in a boxed set for a while. Sort of like those Christmas gift packs with the little bit of sausage, two chunks of fake cheese, and a tiny bottle of mustard, only for people of a sort of different taste.

congrats on your first post

Boker is not necessarily bad...but there are better. For instance a HALO III

or most any benchmade/spyderco/REKAT

welcome to the forums, and i have to tell you...i LOVE your name. hope to get one of those myself someday.

i've never heard of the boker/HK knife. it's probably not too bad. the benchmade is a good knife. just for collecting, you might want to get a spyderco "Q" that had HK cut into the blade. wouldn't really complement your sidearm too good, but it would be a fine addition to your HK memoribilia collection.

I am glad that you like the knife so far. I am very interested in learning as much as I can about how the blade is performing so any feedback is appreciated. The reason for my interest is that I represent the French steel manufacturer who makes the blade material for Boker here in the US. Because the knife is so new, performance feedback has been relatively scarce. I do not want to use this forum to promote material that I am representing, but if anyone is interested in learning more about the material, I would be very glad to answer any questions. Just for clarification, though, the material has not been used for gun barrels as I have found mentioned on the forum, that material is called GKH (supplied by the same company). X15TN is a NITROGEN bearing steel developed originally for aerospace ball bearing applications.

To answer your original question...I have the knife (it is one of my first as well) and I have been infected with the same disease of flicking it open and closed whenever I get a look at it. I like it.

Enjoy your knife. I've never seen a really bad Boker. BUT there are lots of Spyderco models that will be much better knives (and more fun) for less money, if that MSRP on that website is any indication.

Mostly, just enjoy your knife. And if you're interested in a small forum of gun enthusiasts, try http://pub2.ezboard.com/fpsychotalkfirearmsandrkba . It's a nice little spot and several of us are from Illinois. We feel your pain.

Hey! I, too, was just a gun man at one time, but i realized that A) I can legally buy and possess knives and B) I can afford them.

BEWARE: just because a gun company makes excellent guns does not mean that that quality translates into knives. example: SWAT knives (from smith and Wesson) Blow Goat. So do their Colt made equivalents. Neither of those companies actually make "their" knives, they just print their name on made in taiwan crap.

Boker is a good brand, though, so your knife is probably decent, even though it seems quite expensive.

As far a guns go, HK runs in my family. My uncle used to have a pair of HKMP5-SDs, consecutive serial numbers, but he sold them a while back. My unlce is a SWAT sniper and he let me hold His PSG-1 once. It was a religious experience. My dad got a USP 45, and that thing is TIGHT. I think the P13 is the coolest one though. (possible exception being the HK-111 caseless assault rifle)

Good to have you on board.
